Chris Sabin is not mincing words about his new wrestling home. In a new interview with MuscleManMalcolm, the Motor City Machine Guns star declared that AEW has the greatest tag team division in the history of professional wrestling — and insists there is no argument against it. The comments come as Sabin and longtime partner Alex Shelley find themselves one match into a best-of-five series with FTR.

A Surreal Moment at All In
Sabin reflected on sharing the ring at AEW All In earlier this year with a field of legendary teams, calling the experience surreal. He pointed to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage — stars he watched growing up — and the Young Bucks, with whom the Motor City Machine Guns share a deep history across TNA, the independents, and PWG. The Guns have faced the Bucks countless times over the years, making their reunion in an AEW ring feel like a full-circle moment.
He also noted the novelty of facing FTR, a team the Guns had somehow never met in the ring despite parallel careers at the top of the tag division. That first-ever clash, followed now by a high-stakes best-of-five series, has quickly become one of the most closely watched rivalries in AEW.
From WWE Release to AEW Resurgence
The road to AEW was not straightforward. Earlier this year, Sabin and Shelley were released by WWE, cutting short a run that many fans felt never gave the veteran duo a fair shake. Rather than fade away, the Motor City Machine Guns signed with AEW and immediately slotted into the heart of its stacked tag division — exactly the kind of move Sabin’s comments suggest he sees as validation.
Tag team wrestling has been AEW’s calling card since the promotion’s launch, with the Young Bucks, FTR, Copeland and Cage, and now the Motor City Machine Guns all sharing one roster. It is a murderers’ row of talent that even skeptical fans admit is hard to match across any era of the business.
Can Anyone Argue?
Sabin’s claim is bold, but it is hardly without evidence. Between dream matches with FTR, renewed rivalries with the Young Bucks, and the looming presence of other top teams, the Guns have walked into a division packed with the best tag wrestling on the planet. As their series with FTR continues, Sabin will have every chance to back up his words between the ropes.
