The new film, tentatively titled “Along With the Gods: Life and Death” (literal translation), is confirmed as Kim Yong Hwa’s next project. Preparations are already underway, and filming is targeted to begin in the second half of 2027.
A Journey Across Nine Worlds
Set in Gucheon — a realm where souls linger because they cannot let go of their earthly attachments — the third installment follows Sol, a soul suspended between life and death, as she travels across nine worlds in search of a song she was never able to sing.
The Record-Breaking Legacy
The stakes for part three are sky-high. Released in 2017, “Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds” drew a staggering 14.41 million moviegoers with its live-action depiction of a deceased soul undergoing trials in seven hells over 49 days, guided by three afterlife guardians. The sequel, “The Last 49 Days,” surpassed 12.27 million — making the franchise the first in Korean cinema history to have both its first and second installments cross the 10-million-admission mark.
Based on Joo Ho Min’s popular webtoon, the series became a cultural phenomenon. No cast has been announced yet, but the biggest question on fans’ minds is already forming: will Ha Jung Woo, Ju Ji Hoon, and Kim Hyang Gi reunite for the afterlife trilogy’s final chapter?
