KBS 2TV’s upcoming epic historical drama “Sword & Silence” has introduced the key Tang dynasty figures who will shape the fate of the Three Kingdoms. The cast includes Yang Hyun Min, Choi Ye Bin, Lee Ji Hoon, Park Myung Hoon and Park Kang Sub, with the drama premiering on November 14 at 9:20 p.m. KST.

Directed by Kim Yeong Jo of “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth,” “Sword & Silence” tells the sweeping story of how the small kingdom of Silla overcame the more powerful kingdoms of Goguryeo and Baekje — as well as China’s mighty Tang dynasty — to unify the Three Kingdoms.
Five Powers Collide in the Tang Court
Yang Hyun Min plays Li Shimin, the ruthless Tang emperor who seized power after eliminating his own brothers. Willing to recruit even his enemies’ subordinates if they show exceptional talent, Li Shimin launches a massive military campaign to conquer Goguryeo — only to face crisis in the face of Goguryeo’s fierce resistance.
Park Myung Hoon portrays Xu Jingzong, the politically shrewd aide who assists the emperor’s Goguryeo campaign. But after Li Shimin’s death, Xu reveals his long-concealed ambitions and enters the brutal power struggle within the Tang court.
Choi Ye Bin transforms into Wu Zetian, the future ruler of the Tang dynasty. Once Li Shimin’s concubine, she is a woman of exceptional political insight and ambition who earns Li Zhi’s favor, rises to empress, and expands her influence by eliminating senior court officials who oppose her.
Loyalty, Betrayal and the Road to Unification
Park Kang Sub plays Li Zhi, who succeeds Li Shimin as emperor. Deeply devoted to Wu Zetian, he increasingly relies on her to govern as his health deteriorates, shifting the center of power within the dynasty.
Lee Ji Hoon takes on Xue Rengui, a legendary Tang general who earns Li Shimin’s trust by rescuing the emperor from danger during battle against Goguryeo, later rising to become one of the dynasty’s leading generals under Li Zhi and Wu Zetian.
The five characters’ competing ambitions — centered on the conquest of Goguryeo and the internal power struggles of the Tang court — will evolve through the reigns of Li Zhi and Wu Zetian, eventually leading to tensions with Silla that drive a major part of the drama’s storyline.
“Sword & Silence” premieres November 14 at 9:20 p.m. KST on KBS 2TV.
