Vikas Bahl Wraps U.K. Shoot on 'Bolo Bolo Bolo': Siddhant Chaturvedi, Jimmy Shergill Lead 1990s British Punjabi Music Drama

Vikas Bahl has wrapped filming in the U.K. on “Bolo Bolo Bolo,” a coming-of-age musical drama set during the early-1990s boom in Punjabi music across Britain, Variety reports. Jimmy Shergill, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Mona Singh and Alizeh lead the cast, and the film is set to open in cinemas in 2027.

A Sound Born in Garages and Pirate Radio

The film captures the era when young British musicians were mixing Punjabi beats with modern, bass-heavy production — building the sound in makeshift spaces, from garages to unlicensed radio broadcasts and shows far from the mainstream circuit. Alongside the music, the story deals with family ties, friendship, identity and the search for belonging against the backdrop of Britain’s shifting culture.

Who Is Behind ‘Bolo Bolo Bolo’

Bahl directs the film, with Katha Studios producing alongside Good Co, Fusion Flicks and Monk Films. The cast pairs veteran Shergill with rising star Chaturvedi, alongside Mona Singh and Alizeh — a lineup clearly designed to bridge generations of the British Asian audience the film speaks to. With a 2027 theatrical release on the cards, the music-driven drama joins a growing wave of films revisiting Britain’s underground music histories.
