NOTHING NEW began streaming a trailer on Thursday for Kōhei Kadowaki and its We Are Aliens (Ware Ware wa Uchūjin) anime film, highlighting the Heisei era, the time period when the main characters meet.

We Are Aliens centers on Tsubasa and Gyōtarō, two boys who as elementary school students became close friends, but jealousy and misunderstandings eventually drove them apart. Years have passed and the two boys have gone in different directions in life. But when the memories from their past come back, they must face what happened between them years ago.

The film stars Ryōta Bandō (Fureru., live-action How to Train Your Dragon’s Japanese dub) as Tsubasa, and Amane Okayama (Blue Giant, live-action I”s, Hirayasumi) as Gyōtarō, when both characters are young adults. Child actors Yūto Maki and Tasuku Nakagome — who were both selected through auditions — voice Tsubasa and Gyōtarō, respectively, when they were younger. Other cast members include Sakurazaka46 idol group member Ten Yamasaki as Konatsu, comedian Kemuri Matsui as Batahara, Gaku Sano as Tsubasa’s friend Seiya Toda, Reika Ōzeki as young Seiya, Arisa Sasaki as Toda’s friend Elmo Matsushita, and Edo Harumi as a calligraphy teacher.

Kadowaki, who created the second BEASTARS season’s ending sequence and music videos for YOASOBI, served as the film’s planner, scriptwriter, director, storyboard artist, and editor. Yaffle, who previously produced music for Fujii Kaze, Kenshi Yonezu, and others, composed the music. NOTHING NEW planned and produced the upcoming film, and French studio Miyu Productions (Ghost Cat Anzu, A New Dawn) collaborated on the production, after joining on the project in June 2025. adieu performs the film’s theme song “Sasakure” (Split).

The film will open in Japan on September 25. The film screened at the Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, and screened in competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which ran from June 21 to 27. The Ottawa International Film Festival (OIAF), the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), and New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) are screening the film. OIAF takes place from September 23-27, MIFF took place from August 6-23, and NZIFF took place from July 29-August 9.

Sales company CHARADES licensed the film to the distributors Hooray Films in Taiwan, Shaw Organisation in Singapore, Intercontinental Film Distributors in Hong Kong, and Sahamongkol Film in Thailand. CHARADES is handling international sales of the film.

The staff launched a crowdfunding campaign in November on the Motion Gallery website. The campaign aimed to cover production and advertising costs, specifically to “improve the quality of the work” and to “distribute the film more widely.” The campaign ended on March 2 and exceeded its 8 million yen (about US$50,365) target and raised 9,604,510 (about US$60,467) yen.

NOTHING NEW is a small film company that was founded in 2022 with the aim “to create a world where talent is not crushed.”

SNK began streaming an animated trailer for the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves fighting game to highlight the DLC character Duck King, who launched on Thursday, as well as the previous DLC fighter Rick Strowd. Masami Ōbari (Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, The King of Fighters XV, Battle Arena Toshinden), who directed previous animated trailers for the game, was again the director and creative producer. Studio G-1 Neo produced the animation.

Season 3 launched on July 23 with six characters joining the roster in the next five months. Rick Strowd joined the game on July 23. The game will add Kim Kaphwan in September, and Laocorn in November, as well as two mystery characters scheduled for October and December.

SNK teased the new characters in an animated trailer in July.Kim Jae Hoon, the first DLC character for Season Pass 2 in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, launched on January 22. Nightmare Geese launched on February 26, and Blue Mary debuted on March 26. Wolfgang Krauser debuted in the game on April 24, coinciding with the game’s first anniversary. DLC character Mr. Karate launched on May 27. Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star debuted in the game on June 28

The game debuted in April 2025 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The game’s crossover with Street Fighter includes characters Ken and Chun-Li. Both characters are a part of the game’s Season Pass 1. The game launched Andy Bogard as a playable character in June 2025, added Ken as a playable character in August 2025, introduced Joe Higashi as a playable character on October 11, debuted Chun-Li on November 5, and launched MR. BIG on December 9.

The game added real-life DJ Salvatore Ganacci, professional soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, and Hokutomaru. Other returning characters include Terry Bogard, Rock Howard, Tizoc, Hotaru Futaba, Marco Rodrigues, B. Jenet, Kevin Rian, Billy Kane, Mai Shiranui, Kim Dong Hwan, and Gato. The game also includes the new characters Preecha and Vox Reaper.

SNK announced the new game at the EVO fighting game tournament in 2022. It is the first new game in more than two decades since the last installment. 

Fatal Fury (known as Garō Densetsu in Japan) is one of SNK‘s most iconic fighting game franchises, and is the origin of some of the company’s most recognizable characters, including Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Blue Mary, Geese Howard, and more. Fatal Fury: King of Fighters debuted in arcades in 1991, and the latest installment, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, debuted in 1999. SNK‘s separate fighting game franchise The King of Fighters initially began as a crossover fighter for SNK‘s Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting franchises, and their characters have been mainstays in the long-running series until today.

The series inspired the Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf OVA in 1992, Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle OVA in 1993, and Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture in 1994. All three feature Masami Ōbari‘s character designs, with Ōbari also directing the third anime. Discotek Media has released all three anime.
