When a double gameweek rolls around, the instinct is always the same: load up on players with two fixtures and chase the big hauls.

And while Manchester City and Crystal Palace assets may dominate transfers for Gameweek 36, it’s important not to fall into the trap of ignoring elite single-gameweek options.

We’ve seen it time and time again — one explosive performance from a single-gameweek player can easily see them outscore a double-gameweek option.

Also, many of us might already be loaded up on three Manchester City players and not too interested in assets from Crystal Palace, who are prioritising the Conference League.

With that in mind, here are five standout single-gameweek picks who might also be great buys for the remainder of the season.

Bukayo Saka (£9.8m) — Arsenal

Fixtures: West Ham United (A), Burnley (H), Crystal Palace (A) 

Bukayo Saka has hit the ground running since his return from injury.

Arsenal are firmly in title-chasing mode and goal difference could still prove crucial, despite Manchester City slipping up against Everton on Monday.

Their next two games in particular could see goals as they take on West Ham and Burnley, both in the bottom three for goals conceded and expected goals (xG) conceded.

Then, on the last day of the season, they play Crystal Palace, who could have a Europa Conference final three days later. Palace lead Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 going into the second leg of their semi-final on Thursday.

Saka’s importance to this Arsenal side cannot be overstated. Since his return, they have looked much better in attack. He is only eight per cent owned at the time of writing and is gradually playing more minutes, too.

With Arsenal through to the Champions League final, their focus will return to the league. The final is on May 30, six days after Gameweek 38.

Although Saka might not play 90 minutes every game, he should start all of his team’s remaining matches if the title race goes down to the last day. The fixtures make his inclusion more than worth it.

Richarlison (£6.3m) — Tottenham Hotspur

Fixtures: Leeds United (H), Chelsea (A), Everton (H) 

Tottenham assets haven’t exactly been popular this season but things may be turning at just the right time.

Spurs’ back-to-back wins have lifted them out of the relegation zone and their remaining fixtures are hugely important.

They are likely to be favourites to win for their home matches against Leeds and Everton. Their final away game might not look great but Chelsea are on one of the worst runs in the club’s history, losing the last six games while conceding 14 goals and scoring only one.

Spurs have clearly improved under Roberto De Zerbi and they know they need goals in their remaining games.

With injuries affecting the squad, Richarlison has stepped up. He played 90 minutes in the last match and found the net, and with no return date for Dominic Solanke (£7.1m), the Brazilian is likely to lead the line until the end of the season.

He also has an impressive 10 goals and four assists in 1,707 Premier League minutes this season, the equivalent of 19 90-minute matches. When he is on the pitch, he is very effective.

At this stage of the season, motivation matters. Spurs need points and Richarlison is the No 9 who will likely be on the end of most of their chances.

Harry Wilson (£5.9m) — Fulham

Fixtures: Bournemouth (H), Wolverhampton Wanderers (A), Newcastle United (H)

It has been a great season for Harry Wilson, who has registered 10 goals and eight assists. However, he has blanked in the last four games and is being sold in droves.

The next three fixtures for Fulham give his owners a great chance to catch his points when others are selling or forgetting how good of an FPL option he is.

Wilson offers goals, creativity, set-piece involvement, and the ability to deliver big hauls.

Fulham also have plenty of motivation as they they are only three points off a European place, so every game is a must-win.

Despite being sixth in the table, Bournemouth have actually been one of poorest away sides in the league – conceding the second-most goals (33) on the road and also having the second-worst xG conceded (36.9).

Wolves are already relegated, so have nothing to play for and Newcastle have also been poor this season.

Many managers will be focusing on double-gameweek assets and chasing last week’s points. Wilson has almost been forgotten and could make the difference.

His ownership is down to 19 per cent. I can’t see many managers buying him now.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£5.2m) — Everton

Fixtures: Crystal Palace (A), Sunderland (H), Tottenham Hotspur (A)

Scoring eight goals and contributing six assists represents a solid haul for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, especially when you consider those numbers have come from 28 games.

Nailed to start most games when fit, Dewsbury-Hall has goals, assists and set pieces in his locker.

In Gameweek 36, they are likely to play a rotated Crystal Palace side. Everton can still finish sixth, which would guarantee European football next season. Dewsbury-Hall is their talisman. He even earns points for defensive contributions — he has hit his threshold five times.

He’s another low-ownership pick (6.2 per cent), too.

Danny Welbeck (£6.3m) — Brighton & Hove Albion

Fixtures: Wolverhampton Wanderers (H), Leeds United (A), Manchester United (H)

If goals are a striker’s main objective, then Danny Welbeck is having his best season, with 13 in the Premier League. His next three fixtures are great for many reasons, too.

Wolves and Leeds are in the bottom five for goals conceded, and Manchester United already have Champions League qualification wrapped up.

Brighton, on the other hand, have a very real chance of finishing sixth, which might even turn out to be a Champions League spot if Aston Villa finish fifth and also win the Europa League.

With Welbeck fully fit, he will get plenty of minutes and could take any penalties that come their way.

Brighton have been great going forward lately and they should score plenty over the next two gameweeks.

Fewer than one in 10 FPL teams own Welbeck (8.2 per cent) but he can deliver double-digit hauls, especially if Brighton click offensively.
