The legal flare-up between Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban and team governor Patrick Dumont is over — at least for now.

Cuban’s lawyers withdrew the Rule 202 Petition earlier this week, which they filed in court in July. In that petition, they sought sworn testimony from a corporate representative from Arena Development Intermediate, a company the Mavericks formed in Delaware, as the franchise continues its push to develop a new basketball arena in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Cuban was originally seeking more information about Arena Development Intermediate’s corporate structure and other financial documents. Cuban claimed he was entitled to information that was withheld from him when the Mavericks entered into an option agreement earlier this summer to purchase a 104-acre tract at the former Valley View Mall site in North Dallas for a possible new arena.

“It defies belief that the Valley View Options are ‘purely exploratory,’” Cuban’s lawyers wrote in a notice of nonsuit that was filed Monday in the Texas Business Court. “But straining to trade a public hearing for a shroud of secrecy, Arena Development Intermediate, LLC finally revealed what it had concealed: its corporate structure, ultimate ownership, and affiliate status. ADI’s disclosure confirms it is working with … Patrick Dumont and its other associates to violate Petitioners’ rights.”

Judge Bill Whitehill of the Texas Business Court dismissed the motion “without prejudice” and cancelled the arbitration hearing involving Cuban’s Radical Hoops and Dumont’s ADI that was scheduled for Friday.

The back-and-forth between attorneys for Cuban and Dumont this summer was the latest in what’s been a messy transition in Mavericks ownership. Cuban sold his majority stake in the team to Dumont and his mother-in-law, Miriam Adelson, in December 2023. Cuban said he would maintain control of basketball operations after the sale. But when the franchise traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025, it became clear that Dumont had handed control of the team’s front office over to former general manager Nico Harrison.

In March, Cuban said on a podcast that he regretted selling the team to Dumont and Adelson.

“I don’t regret selling,” Cuban said. “I regret who I sold to. I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I’ll leave it at that.”

The Mavericks’ lease at American Airlines Center expires in 2031, and the team wants to move into a new arena ahead of the 2031-32 season. The option agreements in place for the Mavericks to purchase land at the former Valley View Mall site indicate the team has significant interest in building its new home in North Dallas. But it is not a foregone conclusion that the Mavericks will wind up there, Dumont’s lawyers said.

“Mr. Cuban has demanded that be involved in the option process,” Dumont’s lawyers wrote in a July 31 court filing. “Because of the nature of the Valley View Option, there is no current business opportunity to present to Mr. Cuban or the Petitioners. This fact has been communicated to Mr. Cuban.”

Arsenal are reigniting their interest in Aston Villa central defender Ezri Konsa.

Konsa, 28, is still on holiday after the World Cup and is not with the Villa squad for Wednesday’s Super Cup game against Paris St-Germain.

The Gunners’ initial summer move for Konsa did not materialise, with the London club only willing to pay in the region of £30m for the England international who is valued at £60m by Villa.

Konsa played 48 games in all competitions last season for Aston Villa, winning the Europa League.

Having successfully signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, Premier League champions Arsenal have turned their attention to defence and are accelerating their interest in Konsa, whose versatility is seen favourably at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal accept they will need to significantly improve their original offer if they are to be successful in their efforts to land Konda but whether Villa are willing to let the defender leave for a fee under their valuation remains to be seen.

Multiple sources have told BBC Sport the Gunners have also held exploratory talks with Tottenham over a potential move for their club captain Cristian Romero.

Spurs are thought to have no intention of selling the 28-year-old to Arsenal given the intense rivalry between the two north London clubs.

But that has not prevented Arsenal from making enquiries into what would be one of the most surprising transfers of the summer window.

A knee injury against Sunderland in April ruled Romero out for the remainder of the domestic season but he returned to be a starter for Argentina at the World Cup, where he played 70 minutes of the final defeat by Spain.
