Eren the Southpaw Anime Casts Natsumi Fujiwara – News

The staff for the television anime of Kappi and nifuni‘s Hidarikiki no Eren (Eren the Southpaw) manga announced on Monday that Natsumi Fujiwara plays Akari Kishi’s manager Sachiyo Saitō. Saitō appears in episode 6 of the series, which airs on Tuesday.

The anime debuted on TV Tokyo and its affiliates on April 7 at 24:00 (effectively April 8 at 12:00 a.m.). It also streams on Amazon Prime Video in Japan.

Halfway through high school, everyone begins to seriously consider their future. Koichi Asakura, who aspires to attend an art school to become a designer, is shocked one day by graffiti scrawled on the wall of an art museum. The artist is Eren Yamagishi, a left-handed high school student whose talents have been suppressed since a certain incident.

The two eventually come to recognize each other through drawing, and Koichi embarks on his path to becoming a designer, while Eren embarks on her path to becoming a painter.

Toshimasa Suzuki (Fafner: Heaven and Earth film, Lagrange – The Flower of Rin-ne two seasons, RWBY: Ice Queendom) is directing the anime at Production I.G and Signal.MD. Taku Kishimoto (BLUE LOCK two seasons, Haikyu!! series, Moriarty the Patriot) is in charge of series scripts, and Takayuki Gotō (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society film character designer and chief animation director, Parappa the Rapper) is the animation character designer. Yuka Fukuchi and Akane Tamai (both Shinkalion Change the World and Platinum End episode animation directors) are designing the characters and are also the chief animation directors. ALI performs the opening theme song “Funkin’ Beautiful feat. ZORN,” and Ima Murasaki performs the ending theme song “New Walk.”

Shueisha‘s Shonen Jump+ website debuted a new serialization for the manga on March 4. The new story is set in 2026, and involves a new “competition” in the Meguro Advertising Agency. The manga’s 25th compiled book volume shipped on May 1.

Kappi debuted the manga on the cakes web manga service in March 2016. Kappi then launched a remake with art by nifuni on Shueisha‘s Shonen Jump+ service in October 2017. The manga ended in October 2022, and it got an extra chapter that December. Shueisha also published the manga’s 23rd and 24th compiled book volumes, the latter being its final, that December.

The manga inspired a live-action series in October 2019.

Mazenchu Anime Posts Opening Video Narrated by Actress First Summer Uika – News

The staff for the television anime of TORCH‘s Mazenchu character brand announced on Wednesday that actress First Summer Uika is providing the anime’s opening narration. The staff also began streaming the anime’s opening video with Uika’s narration:

Mazenchu is set in a school where all kinds of food can live out their youth and form friendships, rivalries, and bittersweet romances.

The cast includes:

Ebi created the Mazenchu characters. Yūsuke Takase (CG on Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King, Halo Legends, Detroit Metal City) is directing the anime at Studio Nanahoshi. The studio dugout is producing the sound, and Aiin is producing the music. BONJIN is the offline editor. Liberty Animation Studio produced the opening animation. Sayo Kawase is the executive producer, and TORCH is planning and producing the project.

The anime will begin airing on October 7 as the first original anime within Kansai TV‘s morning news and lifestyle program Yoidon!

Sumikko Gurashi Franchise Gets 5th Anime Film in 2027 – News

San-X‘s Sumikko Gurashi franchise announced on Wednesday that it will release a fifth anime film in 2027. The announcement did not reveal the film’s title, but presented a visual drawn by creator Yuri Yokomizo and hinted that the film’s story will center on the character Neko as the protagonist.

Sumikko Gurashi debuted in 2012 as slightly negative characters who like to stay in the corner of a room. The characters include “Shirokuma,” a polar bear who is sensitive to cold; “Penguin?” (with a question mark in its name), a penguin who is unsure if it is actually a penguin; “Tonkatsu,” a piece of pork cutlet that was left uneaten; “Neko,” a shy cat; and “Tokage,” who hides his nature as one of the last dinosaurs.

The first anime film, titled Sumikkogurashi – Good to be in the corner, opened in Japan in November 2019. The film eventually sold a total of 1.22 million tickets, and it earned 1.4 billion yen (about US$12.8 million) at the box office in Japan as of February 2020. The film won the award for Best Animation of the Year at the 29th Annual Japan Movie Critics Awards in June 2020. 

Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Aoi Tsukiyo no Mahō no Ko (The Magical Child of the Blue Moonlit Night), the second film, opened in Japan in November 2021, and sold about 200,000 tickets to earn about 250 million yen (about US$2.22 million at the time) in its first three days.

Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Tsugihagi Kōjō no Fushigi na Ko (The Mysterious Child of the Makeshift Factory), the franchise‘s third anime film, opened in Japan in November 2023, and sold 192,300 tickets for 242,553,320 yen (about US$1.63 million in current conversion) in its first three days.

Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Sora no Ōkoku to Futari no Ko (The Sky Kingdom and the Two Children), the fourth anime film of the franchise, opened in Japan in October 2025. The film ranked at #4 in its opening weekend. The film sold 150,000 tickets for 183,974,840 yen (about US$1.19 million) in its first three days. Counting November 3 (which was the Culture Day holiday in Japan), the film sold a total of 208,000 tickets for 253 million yen (about US$1.64 million) in its first four days.

The franchise had its first-ever television anime that premiered its first episode in October 2023. A puppet musical ran in Tokyo in August to September 2024. Sumikko Gurashi: Koko ga Ochitsukun Desu (This Is Where I Relax), a new series of anime shorts for the franchise, premiered on the NTV network in the ZIP! morning variety program’s new “ZIP! 1-Minute Anime” segment in April 2025.

Universal Studios Japan Offers 1st Sailor Moon Theme Park Ride in 2027 – Interest

Universal Cool Japan 2027 also brings back “Moon Place Chapter Deluxe” short, themed food, merchandise


The Universal Studios Japan theme park announced on Wednesday that it is collaborating with the Sailor Moon franchise for its Universal Cool Japan campaign next year. Universal Cool Japan is the park’s annual series of limited-time attractions and other promotions themed around anime, manga, games, and similar pop culture icons. The Sailor Moon collaboration is the first one announced for the 2027 incarnation.

The collaboration will introduce a new “Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon x Story Ride” attraction with more details to be announced at a later date. The collaboration will also bring back the “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon the Miracle: Moon Place Chapter Deluxe” original manga/CG anime short, which debuted during Universal Cool Japan 2019. An updated “Deluxe” edition of the short played at the park in 2022, and the short then played at Universal Studios Hollywood in California during the Fan Fest Night event from April 25 to May 16 earlier this year.

The Universal Cool Japan 2027’s Sailor Moon collaboration will also include themed food and merchandise.

The Sailor Moon franchise has previously collaborated with Universal Studios Japan in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
