The Daily Show Rips Trump for Including Musk, Cook and More on China Visit
“The Daily Show” roasted President Donald Trump’s CEO-filled guest list for his state visit to China, joking that the group wasn’t “exactly the Rat Pack.”
Host Jordan Klepper weighed in on the president’s visit to China during Wednesday’s monologue for “The Daily Show,” where he quipped it was good for the U.S. and Trump to take some time apart, given his recent outbursts directed at the press.
“I think both Trump and us could benefit from this time apart. I mean, nothing wrong with a little break,” Klepper said. “Get some distance. Reset. You know what? You can take your boys with you.”
At this moment, “The Daily Show” played news coverage of Trump’s planned trip, revealing that the nation’s top CEOs, including Elon Musk, Tim Cook and Jensen Huang, would be in attendance.
“That’s your crew? Those are your boys? Not exactly the Rat Pack here, is it?” the comedian said. “That’s the kind of bachelor party that makes a stripper want to get her life back in order.”
Klepper then quipped that even Trump was underwhelmed by his guests, citing a downtrodden looking president exiting Air Force One in China as supposed evidence.
“In fact, you can tell that was not a fun flight by watching Donald Trump walking down the staircase after he landed in Beijing,” he joked. “I mean, look at that. That is a man who spent 19 hours sitting next to Elon Musk.”
Klepper added, seemingly channeling Trump, “Yeah, sure. Yeah. All right. Let’s hear Grok do the Borat voice again. Oh, yeah. All right. Apartheid South Africa was very nice. Yeah. When do we land?”
As Klepper went on, he teased that Trump’s spirits were lightened by the welcome he got upon his arrival in China, which included “a Jennifer Hudson spirit tunnel of business-casual children.”
“That chant translates to, ‘Ballroom now! Ballroom now,’” Klepper said after playing footage of the welcome. “And then, of course, Tim Cook got off the plane and was like, ‘Hey, you kids get back to work, huh? I’m not paying you a nickel an hour to sing.’”

“The Daily Show” airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.

NY Times Doubles Down on Defense of Nicholas Kristof’s Controversial Op-Ed
The New York Times doubled down on its defense of Nicholas Kristof’s controversial op-ed, titled “The Silence That Meets the Rape of Palestinians,” calling it a “deeply reported piece of opinion journalism.”
“Nicholas Kristof’s deeply reported piece of opinion journalism starts with a proposition to readers: ‘Whatever our views of the Middle East conflict, we should be able to unite in condemning rape,’” a spokesperson for the Times wrote on Wednesday. “He draws together on-the-record accounts and cites several analyses documenting the practice of sexual violence and abuse conducted by various parts of Israel’s security forces and settlers.”
The statement continued: “The accounts of the 14 men and women he interviewed were corroborated with other witnesses, whenever possible, and with people the victims confided in – that includes family members and lawyers. Details were extensively fact-checked, with accounts further cross-referenced with news reporting, independent research from human-rights groups, surveys, and in one case, with U.N. testimony. Independent experts were consulted on the assertions in the piece throughout reporting and fact-checking.”
The storied outlet issued the additional statement regarding Kristof’s article one day after Israel’s Foreign Ministry slammed it as an “biased” piece that relied on “unverified sources tied to Hamas-linked networks.”
“This isn’t journalism. It’s Hamas propaganda, a distortion of the truth and the facts all serving an anti-Israel agenda,” the Foreign Ministry wrote on X Tuesday, adding, “A politically driven smear campaign by a biased paper designed to support efforts to blacklist Israel. This disgusting shameful piece must be removed immediately.”
As we previously reported, the Times first spoke out in defense of Kristof’s article — which alleges that Palestinians are regularly abused in Israeli prisons — on Tuesday, amid sharp criticism and calls for the column to be retracted. Specifically, a spokesperson for the Times made it clear there was “no truth” to retraction rumors and touted Kristof’s accolades and expertise.
“Nicholas Kristof is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has reported on sexual violence for decades, and is widely regarded as one of the world’s best on-the-ground reporters documenting and bearing witness to sexual abuse experienced by women and men in war and conflict zones,” the Times spokesperson wrote. “He traveled to the region to report firsthand on the stories of Palestinians who suffered abuse, and his article collects accounts in the victims’ own words, backed by independent studies.”
Kristof himself responded on Tuesday to the outcry, writing on X, “I appreciate the intense interest in my column. For skeptics, why not agree on Red Cross and lawyer visits for the 9,000 Palestinian ‘security’ prisoners? If you think these abuse allegations are false, such monitoring visits would be protective. So why not?”

Artists Equity Gives Out Bonuses Following Success Of ‘The Rip’
Artists Equity will play the cast and crew of The Rip an additional performance bonus, as the hit film has crossed a key success threshold on Netflix. Artists Equity received the bonus as part of a novel deal with the streamer and is passing it on to cast and crew in accordance with its talent-centric business model. The pic stars Artists Equity founders Matt Damon and Ben Affleck with Joe Carnahan directing.
Following The Rip’s success, in March, Artists Equity and Netflix entered a multi-year streaming first-look, production, and distribution agreement. The deal sees Artists Equity serving as lead studio on films they produce for the global streaming leader.
“We built Artists Equity on the belief that filmmakers should share in the value they bring to a project,” said Affleck and Damon, Artists Equity’s CEO and Chief Content Officer, respectively. “The incredible cast and crew of The Rip are no exception. They each played a critical role in making this film the success that it is. We are grateful for their work and glad to see it connecting so deeply with audiences. We’d also like to thank Netflix for their belief in this project and the unique structure around it. This is a great proof point for our new partnership, and we’re confident it will be just the first in many shared hits.”
Artists Equity’s next film, the crime thriller Animals, is also set up at Netflix. The film is directed by Affleck and written by Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray and Affleck. Affleck also stars alongside Academy Award nominee Steven Yeun and Emmy winners Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson. The film follows a mayoral candidate and his wife who, desperate to pay their son’s ransom, resort to extreme measures, revealing dark secrets they never intended to bring to light.
Since launching in 2022, Artists Equity has also produced scripted features including SXSW award winner The Accountant 2, Doug Liman’s The Instigators, the Cillian Murphy-led Small Things Like These, William Goldenberg’s Unstoppable, and Air, directed by and starring Affleck alongside Damon, Jason Bateman and Viola Davis.
