Dark Matter has descended on Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, debuting the trailer for Season 2 of one of Apple TV‘s science fiction shows, premiering August 28.

“Jason Dessen, quantum physicist,” an intimidating voice opens the teaser clip, which con-goers got to experience in the San Diego Convention Center’s biggest auditorium. Someone is hunting Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) down, and it doesn’t seem to be an alternate version of himself.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its release this year, Dark Matter is a story about the road not taken. Season 1 of the series followed Jason Dessen (Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived.

Season 2 picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe, until the unimaginable forces them to run once again. Author Blake Crouch calls the new universe they’ve taken shelter in as World 26.

As Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela’s (Jennifer Connelly) growing paranoia pushes her to the brink, and their son Charlie (Fegley) starves for a sense of stability as their family is threatened.Elsewhere, Amanda (Braga) and Ryan (Simpson) join forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home. With Blair (Brugel) determined to stop him, Leighton (Okeniyi) relentlessly chases his grand vision of creating a perfect world.

Cast members Edgerton, Connelly, Alice Braga and Dayo Okeniyi as well as author Blake Crouch and executive producers Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry and Matt Tolmach were in attendance during Apple TV’s two-hour panel presentation, which opened with the cast of Matchbox: The Movie coming to the streamer Oct. 9.

“One of the great conundrums of this show is finding a world where other versions of them are not there, don’t exist in some form or aren’t going to encroach on someone’s existence or life,” Edgerton told the Hall H crowd. “As an actor, quite often you go to work and you go, ‘Oh, I’ve been through this. I know loss, I know grief, I know happiness, I know love. ‘There are so many things that get served up in this show that you go ‘This will never happen in my life. When am I? … unless I’m on LSD.’”

Connelly’s Daniela expresses that she’s “scared of things that [she] see[s] in [Jason.] Then, someone wakes her up as she sleeps on a couch, and the shock that registers on her face reveals that it may not be any version of Jason, but rather, someone else.

“We have people exploring things that we can all relate to as people in really extraordinary ways,” Connelly said on the panel. “For my character, a lot of us in life recreate situations that maybe we haven’t quite resolved from our past, and we recreate those dynamics and relationships moving forward. That happens for Daniela in ways she’s never anticipated.”

Alice Braga teased a “Utopian world” her character Amanda finds herself in come Season 2, where there is no climate change and everyone has empathy.

In addition to Edgerton, Connelly and Braga, the ensemble cast returning for season two includes Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley, and Amanda Brugel. 

Apple also has “Dark Matter: The Official Podcast” hosted by author and showrunner Blake Crouch and executive producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry launching alongside the Season 2 premiere with new podcast episodes rolling out alongside new episodes of the TV adaptation.

Although Baywatch is heading back to the beach with Fox‘s new reboot, CJ Parker is moving on to greener pastures.

Pamela Anderson recently told Deadline she has “no plans” to return for the latest update of the 1989-2001 series, explaining that she wants “to make really bold choices” in her acting career after her Golden Globe-nominated performance in 2024’s The Last Showgirl.

“No one’s reached out to me. I don’t know much about it. I know that they were talking to my sons at some point about producing, but I don’t think they had a meeting of the minds. I’m not sure what happened there, but I wish them well. It was a great job, and I loved going to work every day on the beach. I would have been there anyway. [Laughs] At the time, it taught me a lot, and it gave me worldwide exposure. Everything I’ve done has led me to here, which is a blessing. But I have no plans of going back to Baywatch.

Anderson added, “If my kids were involved, I probably would have listened to them. I think I’ve just got to keep on seeing what else is out there. I get that there’s a lot of really great TV out there right now, but I’ve already done that. Now is my time to really play with different characters. I don’t want to just fill my time until the end of the year. I have options, and some things I’m thinking about, including some theater again. I want to make really bold choices. I want to surprise people. I want to surprise myself. And so I’m trying to do things I haven’t done in the past.”

After playing lifeguard/saxophonist CJ Parker in the parent series from 1992 to 1997, Anderson reprised her role for a cameo in 2017’s Baywatch movie.

Filming is underway on the rebooted Baywatch, which sees the wild child Hobie Buchannon (Stephen Amell) from the original series as a Baywatch captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch (played by David Hasselhoff in the OG series). Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie (Jessica Belkin), the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.

The series also stars Shay Mitchell as Trina, Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Noah Beck as Luke and Nader as Selene. In a recurring role, Livvy Dunne will make her acting debut as Grace. David Chokachi and Erika Eleniak will reprise their original series roles as Cody Madison and Shauni McClain.

Baywatch is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle with Matt Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted) serving as showrunner and executive producer. McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz are executive producers. McG directed the series premiere.

This ain’t your mama’s Baba Yaga.

During a Saturday panel at San Diego Comic-Con AMC+ and Crave debuted a new trailer that highlighted a wickedly dark and feminist slant to the tale of the Slavic witch Baba Yaga. 

Based on the play by Kat Sandler, who serves as writer and showrunner, Yaga reimages the witch, who is known to live in a hut on chicken legs, and potentially as a murderous seductress or powerful enchantress depending on the author of the tale. 

In Sandler’s version, Yaga is a contemporary mystery thriller that follows Rapp (Noah Reid), a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a powerful fishery, Henry Park (Hudson Williams). He finds himself at odds with an apprehensive local detective, Carson (Clark Backo); a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men, Katherine (Carrie-Ann Moss), and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects, secret lives and ancient magic. 

The trailer started with a voiceover from Moss’ Katherine, explaining the myth of Baba Yaga in a luxurious dimly lit living room across from a slightly moist and a little horny, Williams’ Henry. “There are versions of her all over the world. Sometimes she’s an ugly old witch. She lives in a [dilapidated] house on chicken feet. Sometimes she’s a wise woman, an enchantress, a healer. Sometimes she helps a hero on his quest. Sometimes she tests him. Sometimes she kills them. Sometimes she eats them. Sometimes she fucks them. But, she always has a name.” Katherine says seductively. 

Then in a series of quick cuts, the series’ characters, especially Williams, are caught in compromising x-rated and dangerous positions from lustful thrusts and sweaty threesomes to blood sacrifice and errant chicken feathers revealing an old, haggard witch. The last frame revealed a release of October 2026. 

As soon as the steamy trailer was over, Reid quipped: “[Hudson] cannot keep his hands off himself. I mean, I don’t blame him.” 

Williams, who could not be at the panel in person, addressed the audience in a pre-recorded video where he teased that the show was “a blast and a wild one to film.” 

Confirming his co-star, Reid stressed William’s role is “a wild performance that is scary hot.” 

Moss, who also could not attend in person, shared well wishes for all that wanted to watch the series when it debuts in the Fall. 

Other surprises at panel also included another clip that featured Backo’s Carson and Detective Rapp meeting each other the first time upon being called to seemingly investigate a person seen burning on a makeshift pyre in the woods. The clip also featured another haunting voiceover from Yaga explaining the mystery that shrouds her lore, alluding perhaps to the show’s mission to dismantle what we know about the witch. “You say I’m wicked as the night but wise and powerful as the sea. You say I eat naughty children and their bones. You say I’m ugly and lonely and that no one will love me,” Yaga cries in the trailer. “No one will love me. Who will love such a beast, such a witch as I am.” 

Sandler explained that the show was “a feminist revenge-tinged reimagining of the myth that is sexy, propulsive, vicious and scary.” As to why she baked the dark fairytale into that of a detective narrative, Sandler added: “I think the detective mystery element of it is a really big piece of it. And it comes so much from a pastiche of all of the stuff that I have loved my whole life and that we kind of pulled out of our childhoods like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella, Grimm Fairytales. But it’s also that the theme of witches is so aligned with [bad behavior and darkness]. So, I think a feminist bent is good for right now, and that maybe we’ve been burning the wrong witches for centuries, and this show is about what would happen if a witch survived long enough to hunt back and tell her own story.”
