A group of former FCC chairs and top agency officials from both sides of the political aisle are calling on Brendan Carr to end the regulator’s early broadcast license review of ABC’s local stations.

In a filing on Tuesday, they argued that the proceeding is “an assault on free speech disguised as regulatory process” and a “grave violation of both the Communications Act and the Constitution.” They added that Carr “seeks to censor Disney’s and ABC’s speech and send a chilling message to all broadcasters: carry speech we don’t like at your peril.”

“The Commission initiated the early renewal process of all eight ABC-owned-and-operated stations one day after the President and First Lady criticized ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel for a joke he made about them,” the group wrote. “Public reporting and the notice establishing the procedures for this proceeding also suggest that the Chairman has prejudged the outcome of this proceeding and that the Commission may assert the power to terminate the stations’ licenses early. All this betrays that this proceeding is pretext for the Chairman’s continued campaign of suppressing disfavored speech.”

Signatories of the filing include Mark Fowler and Dennis Patrick, who served as FCC chairmen under Ronald Reagan; Alfred Sikes, who was chairman under President George W. Bush; and Thomas Wheeler, who was chairman under Barack Obama.

Fans of Showtime‘s Dexter: Resurrection officially have a foot in the door of Season 2, with a batch of first-look images and new details teasing what America’s favorite fictional serial killer has in store when the show returns to Paramount+.

From Clyde Phillips, the second season of Dexter: Resurrection finds Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) caught between two killers – one notorious and the other terrorizing New York in ways no one ever anticipated – all while battling his greatest enemy yet: a mid-life crisis. Harrison (Jack Alcott) continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter.

Season 2 cast also includes returning stars Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Desmond Harrington and James Remar. New series regular additions include Brian Cox, Dan Stevens, Bokeem Woodbine, and Nona Parker Johnson. Krysten Ritter also returns in a guest-starring role, and Gabriel Luna joins as a guest star this season.

Some of the photos are very interesting. Like the one below showing Harrison has joined the family business by embracing a career in law enforcement. Three of his family members were employed with the Miami Metro Police Department in the original series: his grandfather, Harry Morgan (Remar), was a detective; his father, Dexter, was a blood spatter analyst; and his aunt, Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter), was a homicide detective.

Speaking of OG detectives, Harrington returns as Joey Quinn with a bigger role in Season 2, following a promotion to series regular.

It’s scary going into Season 2 with this character, especially following the death of Angel Batista (David Zayas) in Season 1. Quinn has long suspected Dexter of being a killer going back to the mothership series. His buddy Batista was slain by Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), but there’s no doubt Quinn will suspect Dexter played a role in it. Say your prayers now, for Joey Quinn.

Well hello, Charley (Thurman). She is back after getting her mom far away from the chaos of New York City in the Season 1 finale, even though her boss Prater is dead and buried. The reason for Charley’s return is as yet unknown, but let’s not forget she told Dexter last season that it would be her who kills his son Harrison.

Looking at the photo below closely, it looks like Charley and Dexter are holding hands and they have some intense staring going on. Is Dexter playing her or is this really a new love connection for him to explore? Charley is a baddy but can she be trusted? So many questions and yet, no Season 2 premiere date.

Is this part of his mid-life crisis? Could he just have bought himself a sports car?

The New York Film Festival unveiled the world premiere of Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth! starring Pedro Pascal as the Centerpiece selection at its upcoming 64th edition.

Pascal plays Alex, a cellist picking up the pieces of a fractured life in the Searchlight Pictures drama. A former child prodigy living in the shadow of a storied musical family, Alex has left his position with an orchestra in Chicago, fleeing a soured relationship with a manic ex (Olivia Wilde), and returned to LA to resolve unfinished family business and record Hollywood film scores. The production employs a panoply of original movie compositions in a soundtrack featuring some of the industry’s leading musicians.

Eva Victor, Alexa Swinton, Kaya Ralls, Erik Griffin, JoBeth Williams and Margarita Levieva also star, with Hank Azaria and Will Arnett.

“I have been orbiting NYFF for the great majority of my life,” said Gilroy. “I was baptized by Fitzcarraldo. I was tending bar across the street and a customer tipped me a single ticket. It was a bad seat to the most remarkable screening I’d ever attended. There were many memorable nights to follow. The Centerpiece invitation is a fantasy I’ve conjured more times than I care to admit. NYFF has always been the benchmark for me; the opportunity to premiere a film I cannot wait to show, in that hall, to that audience, feels every bit as thrilling as I’d imagined. I’m honored.”

The award-winning writer, director and producer made his feature directorial debut with Oscar-nominated Michael Clayton, going on to write and directed Duplicity and The Bourne Legacy. Gilroy wrote the first three Bourne films and co-wrote Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. Other writing credits include Beirut, State of Play, Armageddon, The Devil’s Advocate, Dolores Claiborne, Proof of Life, Extreme Measures and The Cutting Edge. He created Lucasfilm’s Emmy-nominated series Andor.

Behemoth! will screen Friday, Oct. 2 ahead of a Dec. 4 theatrical release. Trailer here.
