2026 Crayon Shin-chan Film Opens at #3 – News

Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu (Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island), the first anime film adaptation of Nagano‘s Chiikawa manga, dropped from #1 to #2 in its second weekend. The film sold 766,000 tickets and earned 1,072,085,100 yen (about US$6.79 million) from Friday to Sunday. The film has sold a total of 3.05 million tickets and earned a cumulative total of 4,402,890,200 yen (about US$27.89 million).
The film opened on July 24 and ranked at #1 for its opening weekend. The film earned 990 million yen (about US$6.05 million) on its opening day. The film sold 1,508,500 tickets and earned 2,240,333,500 yen (about US$13.70 million) in its first three days.
The film is based on the manga’s arc posted on X (formerly Twitter) from March to November 2023, nicknamed the “Siren Arc” or “Island Arc.”
The film’s story begins with Chiikawa and Hachiware relaxing, when a rabbit with a flyer on its face suddenly appears. Hachiware looks at the flyer, which reads, “Invitation to a special island.” Lured by tempting promises including great rewards for simple hunts on the island and essentially free sweet and spicy dishes such as limited-edition island ramen and sweets, Chiikawa and friends decide to go to the island. Suspicious with the flyer, Rakko goes with them to the island. What awaits them when they arrive on the island?
Nagano is credited for the original story and also wrote the film’s script. Under Nagano‘s supervision, Kei Oikawa (Uma Musume Pretty Derby 3 seasons, Hinamatsuri, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO!, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax) directed the film at Cygames Pictures. QTORY inc. managed the production, and TOHO is distributing the film.
Makoto Tanaka, who voices Hachiware, performs the opening theme song “Kutsuzure” (Shoe Sore). Series creator Nagano wrote the lyrics.
Momoka Terasawa and Sayumi Suzushiro voice Hitoha and Futaba, respectively, the two islanders that Chiikawa and friends encounter.

Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Kikikaikai! Ora no Yōkai Bake-shon (Crayon Shin-chan The Movie Super Strange! My Yōkai Monster Vacation), the 33rd 2D anime film in the Crayon Shin-chan series, ranked at #3 in its opening weekend. The film sold 441,000 tickets and earned 539,371,500 yen (about US$3.41 million) in its first three days.
The film opened in Japan on July 31.
The film centers on “the land of yōkai.” The Nohara family go to Hiroshi’s hometown of Akita to attend a famous fireworks festival during the summer. However, an incident causes yōkai to escape from their land and will wreak havoc in Akita, and in other areas throughout Japan. The Nohara family then go to the land of yōkai, and find themselves in a mysterious yet nostalgic world, where they go on an unpredictable adventure.
Sairi Itō stars in the film as Yako, a nine-tailed fox yōkai. Sakamoto of the comedy duo Mayurika plays the Squid Yōkai, first base player of the Edomae Sushies baseball team, which challenged Shin-chan and his friends to a baseball game.
Other cast members include Yumiko Kobayashi, Miki Narahashi, Toshiyuki Morikawa, and Satomi Koorogi.
Masaki Watanabe (Battle Spirits: Heroes, Sakamoto Days) directed the film. Yoshiko Nakamura (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- franchise, PriPara) penned the script. Shinei Animation, TV Asahi, ADK Emotions, and Futabasha produced the film, and TOHO is distributing. Singer TOMOO performs the film’s theme song “Otona ni Nattara” (When I Become an Adult).

Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen (Decisive Battle of the Soul), the fifth live-action film based on Yasuhisa Hara‘s Kingdom manga, dropped from #3 to #5 in its third weekend. The film earned 452,595,500 yen (about US$2.86 million) over the weekend. The film has now sold a total of 2.77 million, and made a cumulative total of 4,300,362,500 yen (about US$27.24 million).
The film sold 993,000 tickets and earned 1,584,148,300 yen (about US$9.67 million) in its first three days. Counting the Marine Day holiday on July 20, the film sold 1,315,000 tickets and earned 2.064 billion yen (about US$12.59 million) in its first four days.
The new film opened in Japan on July 17.
Yasuhisa Hara‘s historical manga centers around the slave boy Xin and his dream of becoming a great general for the state of Qin. Xin helps Ying Zheng, the young Qin king who shares his desire to unify China, rise to power within the state. Xin does all he can to become a superior commander of an army capable of defeating the Seven Warring States.
Shinsuke Satō (live-action Gantz, Death Note Light up the NEW world, Bleach) returned to direct. Tsutomu Kuroiwa (Black Butler, Golden Kamuy) wrote the screenplay with Hara. Yutaka Yamada (Bleach, Golden Kamuy -The Hunt of Prisoners in Hokkaido-) composed the music.
The first live-action film opened in Japan in April 2019, and eventually earned a cumulative total of 5.73 billion yen (about US$53.2 million). Funimation screened the film at Anime Expo in July 2019, and screened the film in theaters in the United States and Canada in August 2019. The second film Kingdom II: Harukanaru Daichi e (To Distant Lands) opened in Japan in July 2022, and earned 5.16 billion yen (about US$37.8 million), making it the highest-earning Japanese live-action film in Japan in 2022.
The third film opened in Japan in July 2023 and ranked at #1 in its opening weekend. The film had the best opening weekend among the first three Kingdom films. The fourth film opened on July 12, 2024. Netflix began streaming the fourth film in January 2025.
The Kamen Rider Zeztz & Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity W Hero Natsu Eiga 2026 film dropped from #5 to #10 in its second weekend. The film earned 53,731,690 yen (about US$340,300) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 298,337,590 yen (about US$1.88 million).

Manga Plus Adds Simulpub of Sango Honda’s Finding the Invisible Star Manga – News
Shueisha‘s MANGA Plus service started on Thursday the simulpub of Sango Honda’s new manga titled Finding the Invisible Star (Nanatōsei o Mitsukete), which launched on Shueisha‘s Shonen Jump+ service on the same day.

MANGA Plus describes the story:
Set in 2001, Naka, a young factory worker, has just one thing to look forward to each week: his Saturday ballroom dance class. One day, he meets a woman around his age there. Though she insists she’s just an ordinary office worker, Naka finds himself increasingly drawn to Asaka…
Shonen Jump+ published Honda’s previous one-shot manga titles: “looking for,” “Pierce,” “Poolside Memories,” and “Kinyōbi yori no Shisha” (Messenger from Friday), which won the Shonen Jump+ Manga Award 2022 Summer. MANGA Plus also published the “Poolside Memories” one-shot in English.

Nintendo Switch 2 Sells Over 23 Million Units – News
Switch 2 sells 3.82 million units in fiscal year’s 1st quarter for total of 23.68 million as of June 30

Nintendo revealed on Thursday the first quarter financial results for its current fiscal year ending on March 31, 2027. The Nintendo Switch 2 system has sold 23.68 million units as of June 30. The console sold 3.82 million units so far in this fiscal year, which started on April 1. The Nintendo Switch console has sold 156.59 million units.
Total Switch 2 software sales amount to 58.17 million units as of June 30, with 9.46 million from this fiscal year so far. The Mario Kart World launch game representing 15.39 million units, including bundle pack-ins. The Donkey Kong Bananza 3D platformer game sold 4.78 million units, the Switch 2 Edition of the Pokémon Legends Z-A game sold 3.99 million units, Masahiro Sakurai‘s Kirby Air Riders sequel game sold 1.90 million units, and the Switch 2 Edition of the Super Mario Party Jamboree game sold 1.15 million units. Digital game sales accounted for 61.5% of total software sales this year so far for Switch and Switch 2.
The Switch console has sold .66 million units so far this fiscal year as of June 30. This number includes sales for the Nintendo Switch, Lite, and OLED consoles. Switch software sales amount to 33.81 million units.
Tomodachi Life, one of the last games Nintendo developed for the original Switch console, has sold 7.94 million units. Pokémon Pokopia has sold 1.27 million units.
The bestselling titles for Switch as of June 30 are:
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 71.53 million copies
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons: 50.29 million copies
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: 38.14 million copies
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: 34.06 million copies
- Super Mario Odyssey: 30.80 million copies
- Pokémon Scarlet/Pokémon Violet: 28.46 million copies
- Pokémon Sword/Pokémon Shield: 27.26 million copies
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: 22.71 million copies
- Super Mario Party: 21.36 million copies
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe: 19.10 million copies
The Switch 2 console sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in the first four days following its release in June 2025. According to the company, this is the highest global sales amount for any Nintendo hardware within its first four days. The system sold 5.82 million units in its first fiscal year’s first quarter ending in June 2025. Switch 2 sold over 17 million units as of the end of the previous fiscal year’s third quarter on December 31, surpassing the Nintendo Wii U’s lifetime sales of 13.56 million units.
Nintendo raised suggested retail prices for Switch 2 on May 25 in Japan. It will raise the prices in Europe, the United States, and Canada on September 1 “in light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook.”
Nintendo launched the Switch console in March 2017. The Switch surpassed Sony‘s PlayStation 4 and Nintendo‘s Game Boy/Game Boy Color as of the end of 2022. The console surpassed the Nintendo DS’ lifetime sales of 154.02 million units to become Nintendo‘s best selling console of all time last February It is now the second best-selling console of all time, and stands behind only PlayStation 2.

Kindergarten Wars Anime Casts Sumire Morohoshi – News
Morohoshi plays Una in spring 2027 series
The official X/Twitter account for the television anime of Yū Chiba‘s Kindergarten WARS (Yōchien Wars) manga revealed on Thursday that Sumire Morohoshi will play Una, kindergarten teacher for the Violet class who is said to be the strongest.

The anime will debut in spring 2027.
The anime stars:
Shinsuke Gomi (episode director for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Secrets of the Silent Witch) is directing the anime at Sunrise and Felix Film, and Junko Yamanaka (Kamisama Kiss, Servamp) is designing the characters.
Shueisha‘s MANGA Plus website publishes the Kindergarten WARS manga digitally. Yen Press published the manga’s fourth volume physically on April 28.
Yen Press describes the story:
Rita is Convict 999, a former legendary assassin who now works at a kindergarten for the children of world leaders. Her job is to protect the schoolchildren from the clutches of would-be assassins sent after them! But even with her overwhelming strength, Rita has a weakness—she’s head-over-heels for good-looking men!
Chiba launched the manga on Shueisha‘s Shonen Jump+ app and website in September 2022. Shueisha published the manga’s 18th compiled book volume on August 4. The manga entered its final arc in March 2025, and has over 2 million copies in circulation.
Chiba launched the Yōchien Wars -LUKE- (Kindergarten WARS -LUKE-) spinoff manga in November 2024. The spinoff manga is a 180-page story about the character Luke.
