NEW YORK — New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone keeps insisting his team’s lineup will turn things around.

A week after the trade deadline, and after another weak performance Sunday in a 2-1 loss in 10 innings to the Atlanta Braves, it hasn’t happened yet, and it’s now a question of whether it actually will.

“We have a chance to be a really good club here at the most important time,” Boone said. “But we also know that we’ve got to improve offensively to be that complete team.”

The Yankees’ clubhouse was pin-drop quiet late Sunday afternoon after Michael Harris II’s ground-ball single to right field scored automatic runner Ha-Seong Kim for the eventual game-winning run. The Yankees ended the game by going down in order in the inning’s bottom half, culminating with Ryan McMahon striking out swinging against Tyler Kinley and flinging his bat in disgust.

The near silence reflected the Yankees’ production. Only center fielder Trent Grisham crossed the plate, clubbing a home run with two outs in the eighth inning. It tied the score at 1 and came after the only blemish against Yankees starting pitcher Cam Schlittler — a Matt Olson solo home run in the seventh.

Otherwise, it was the same old story for the Yankees, who received excellent starting pitching but the equivalent of a whoopee cushion noise from their bats. Schlittler went seven innings, striking out 11 and walking none. It was a performance that begged for some sign of life from the offense.

Instead, the two bats the Yankees acquired at the trade deadline — Heliot Ramos and first baseman Luis García Jr. — combined to go hitless in eight at-bats with three strikeouts. Ben Rice’s slide also continued as he went 0-for-4 after entering the afternoon hitting .091 (2-for-22) in seven games in August.

The Yankees have scored just 12 runs in five games since Tuesday, the day after the trade deadline, when they finally had Ramos and García in the same lineup.

Meanwhile, Yankees pitchers’ backs are probably hurting from carrying the team. The starters have allowed two runs or fewer in 10 of their last 12 starts. Yankees pitchers also rank first in team ERA at 3.30, ahead of the second-place Milwaukee Brewers (3.47). The Yankees have posted an 88 wRC+ since Aaron Judge (right rib stress fracture) last played May 31 — the worst mark in the majors.

“These guys are doing an incredible job keeping us close in these games,” catcher Austin Wells said. “Just trying to find stuff at the plate. Trying to move guys over and get jobs done. I feel like we’ve done a pretty good job up and down of having great at-bats. We’re just not getting results.”

One of the Yankees’ many offensive lowlights came in the ninth with two outs. Jazz Chisholm Jr. watched two fastballs down the middle and then swung over a 1-2 changeup from Braves reliever Raisel Iglesias. Chisholm had one of the Yankees’ four hits, and he walked, but he’s hitting a career-worst .216 and isn’t making much progress.

“It’s super frustrating,” Chisholm said. “You know your abilities, and you go out there, and you go in the cage and work every day, and it’s not just coming together in the game. I’ve just got to keep on going and push through it.”

Added Boone, “I think all year (Chisholm is) just struggling to get really dialed in. He’s never had that real hot streak, which he’s certainly capable of, and we’ve seen over the last couple of years where it’s two, three or four weeks of impactful damage, speed and getting on (base) and things like that.”

Another lowlight? When Ramos struck out swinging with runners on second and third and the score tied at 0 to end the sixth. The Yankees went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

The Yankees rightfully will point to a series win in which they took two of three games from the National League East leaders. But they will go into Monday’s off day with an offense that’s improved on paper but not so much in the box score.

“We’re a little more different than we were last week,” Boone said. “We do have a little more flexibility personnel-wise, in different days. We have a couple of more real hitters in the lineup. So I feel like we’re better right now, even today. Better at-bats than we’ve had where we’ve had stretches where we’re not getting on base a lot, and we’re not getting big hits when we do get those opportunities. So, today, I felt like we were at least hitting the ball off the barrel a lot more. That’s baseball. Sometimes you don’t get rewarded.”

Though the Yankees’ lineup has a fresher look, Boone presented the same refrains he relied on before the trade deadline, emphasizing his belief in the bats.

“Hopefully we continue to get a little more healthy as we go and become that team,” he said.

The Yankees think starting pitcher Carlos Rodón (elbow inflammation) could return within the next two weeks. Left fielder Cody Bellinger (left hamstring strain) has been running and could be back in a few weeks. The team hasn’t offered timetables on Giancarlo Stanton (right calf strain) or Judge.

It might be quite some time before the Yankees find the team-wide health Boone spoke of.

Until then, Boone likely will continue to profess his belief the Yankees’ lineup will get better, but without much to back him up.

Jon Rahm clinched the LIV Golf season points title for a third straight year despite finishing tied for 41st at LIV Golf New York, where Joaquin Niemann claimed a three-shot victory for his ninth win in the last three years.

Rahm shot 76 in the final round, but it was still enough for the two-time major champion to secure the season crown for the third successive year since joining LIV Golf.

“The last two weeks haven’t been the best, have they,” Rahm said. “I would say proud of earlier in the season.

“To start off as well as I did with a few second places and not getting the win and then going to Hong Kong and getting it done when I needed to, having a lead and then basically losing it and birdieing four in a row in the last few holes was probably the most proud moment.

“It’s been great. It’s been a great year. Again, a little sour taste in my mouth because of how badly I played this week. But it’s been something to be proud of.

“After last year and not getting the win, having possibly a question mark over the season-long race, to win twice and do it effectively and win it again definitely feels good.”

Niemann, who won earlier this year in South Korea, went wire-to-wire at Trump International. He finished at 16-under 268.

Harold Varner III stayed with Niemann until the Chilean pulled away late with a birdie on the 13th and an eagle on the par-five 15th. Varner shot 70 to finish second.

“I feel like the more they push me, the better golfer I’m going to become from every experience that I have,” Niemann said. “To be able to hit the shots that I did and make the putts that I did coming down the stretch, I put credit on myself.”

Bryson DeChambeau shot 71 and tied for 38th, 23 shots off the lead. He cannot catch Rahm with one tournament remaining.

It capped a week in which LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said it had signed a term sheet with a lead investor that will allow the league to move forward without Saudi Arabian funding. O’Neil did not identify the investor or the size of the investment.

Kayla McBride is the new WNBA single-game 3-point queen.

The 13-year veteran became the first player in league history to hit double-digit 3-pointers in one game, knocking down 10 triples in the Minnesota Lynx’s 103-90 win over the Dallas Wings. McBride set her career-high with 43 points Sunday, setting the single-game regulation scoring record for the Lynx franchise.

McBride was unconscious for most of the day, making her first four field-goal attempts and 12 of her first 13, which included six 3s. She went into a bit of a heat check after that stretch, missing three jumpers in a row to close the third quarter. But she rediscovered her form in the final frame, nailing four more triples to set the record and clinch the victory on the back-to-back for Minnesota.

“I love this game and it’s been so good to me,” McBride said on the broadcast postgame. “When I have opportunities like that, I want to give it back.”

Her 10th 3-pointer came on an assist from Napheesa Collier, McBride’s longest-tenured teammate in Minnesota.

The Lynx ran one more set for her to extend the record before giving her a curtain call with just more than a minute remaining. The Target Center crowd chanted “Kayla” after McBride went to the bench, and she became emotional on the corner of the court after time expired, taking in the love from the home fans.

“It’s crazy, I’ve been in this league for 13 years, and choosing to come back here in the offseason, I didn’t know — we didn’t know what it was going to look like,” McBride said on the broadcast after the game. “Moments like this, times like this, you realize you made the right decision.”

She is enjoying the most prolific shooting season of her career, taking and making more 3s than ever and averaging the most points (18.4) of her 134 seasons. Her 3-point percentage of 42.4 is the second-highest of her career, behind her final season in Las Vegas in 2019.

She ranks first in the WNBA in total made 3s and third in 3s per game behind Rhyne Howard and Marina Mabrey, both of whom have also drained nine 3-pointers in game (Mabrey has done so twice in 2026). Seven players, on nine occasions, had hit nine 3-pointers in a game before McBride’s record.

With the win, the Lynx earned a season series sweep over the Wings, who were playing without Azzi Fudd for the second consecutive contest. They have already clinched a playoff spot and are now 3 1/2 games ahead of Golden State atop the WNBA standings.
