Veronika Slowikowska To Star In Comedy ‘Stephanie, Bride To Be’

EXCLUSIVE: SNL’s Veronika Slowikowska is set to topline Stephanie, Bride to Be, a comedy marking the directorial debut of Allie Viti and the first narrative feature from exec producer John Wilson (How To with John Wilson).

Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), Amy Sedaris (Kevin), Lea DeLaria (Orange Is the New Black), and Reina Hardesty (Butterfly) will co-star, with production underway in New York City.

Written by Viti and Zach Schiffman from a story by Slowikowska, Viti, and Schiffman, Stephanie, Bride to Be follows Stephanie (Slowikowska) as her “proposal party” becomes a slow-motion meltdown while she waits for her boyfriend to arrive and pop the question. As Stephanie scrambles to keep the night from falling apart, she must contend with her flighty parents (Sedaris & Imperioli), a surprise ex (Hardesty), and the omnipresent restaurant manager (DeLaria) who is eager to see everyone leave.

Slowikowska told us, “When Allie, Zach and I started developing this comedy we knew we had something special on our hands. It’s so thrilling to make something with my best friends and the involvement of a visionary like John Wilson. I’m so excited for everyone to meet Stephanie.”

Producers on Stephanie, Bride to Be include JR Rappaport of Glasshouse Pictures, Peter Heres, Meryl Faye Crock, Will Deasey, and Joaquin Acrich. Slowikowska is exec producing alongside Wilson, Clark Filio, Shirel Kozak of Peanut World Pictures, Mike Bucchino of Block Party Films, and Tyler Bagley. The film is a co-production between Wilson’s Peanut World Pictures and Rappaport’s Glasshouse Pictures.

A Canadian comedian and actress who made her debut as an SNL cast member this past year, Slowikowska has also been seen on Peacock’s Poker Face and Netflix’s Tires. Currently, she can be seen in Will Gluck’s Universal rom-com One Night Only, starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, which is out in theaters. Upcoming projects include the indie Close to Nowhere, where she stars opposite Luke Kirby, and Craig Zobel’s thriller Turpentine, with Melissa McCarthy, Connor Storrie, Paul Walter Hauser, and more. She is represented by UTA, Artists First, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.

Viti comes to make her directorial debut after working alongside EP Wilson on his lauded HBO series How To with John Wilson and his Sundance doc The History of Concrete, out via Magnolia Pictures on September 18. On How To, an experimental comedic docuseries exec produced by Nathan Fielder, among others, Viti at various points held roles as writer, associate producer, and associate segment producer. She produced The History of Concrete and was also an associate producer on HBO Max’s It’s Florida, Man. Viti is repped by WME; Wilson by UTA.

Imperioli is repped by Gersh and Anonymous Content; Sedaris by CAA and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham; DeLaria by The Katz Company; Hardesty by Gersh, 42, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman; and co-writer Schiffman by Artists First and Granderson Des Rochers.

‘Summer House’ Star Bailey Taylor Signs With Gersh

Bailey Taylor, one of the newest recurring cast members on Bravo’s Summer House, has signed with Gersh for representation in all areas.

Outside of Summer House, Taylor is a content creator behind the It Girl series, which includes an online video series, the Substack The It Girl Guide and the iHeartRadio podcast It Girl Podcast, where recent guests range from Dieux Skin founder Charlotte Palermino to Love Island alums.

Taylor joined the Bravo series in its latest season, which later exploded into scandal and earned its first Emmy nomination in the outstanding unstructured reality program category. The season, the tenth for the long-running show, earned series ratings highs, with a record-breaking 2.2 million viewers per episode.

“We had no idea where it was going,” executive producer Steven Weinstock recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “We had to sit and look at the story arcs of the individuals that were involved and we had to consider ways in which we could bring that story to the audience that really made sense and didn’t cheat them out of the real drama of the story.”

CBS Kicks Off ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ Emmy Push

Last year, after CBS made the decision to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel threw his support behind his fellow late-night host to win the main late-night Emmy.

Kimmel put up a billboard saying, “I’m voting for Stephen.”

Many wondered then, twelve months on, after Kimmel had his own annus horribilis, including briefly being taken off the air by ABC, whether Colbert would return the favor. Kimmel even told THR, “We were hoping this time they’d get one for us.”

It seems he has not.

CBS posted an FYC video on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s YouTube channel. It featured many clips of Colbert’s fellow late-night hosts and Emmy rivals, including Kimmel, John Oliver, Jon Stewart, David Letterman, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon and Andy Cohen. But it made it clear that they want another Emmy in the Outstanding Variety Series category (the new name for the merged category).

The Late Show is competing against Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Saturday Night Live in the main late-night category after the Outstanding Talk Series and Outstanding Scripted Variety Series categories were merged.

There is also the possibility that more than one of these shows can pick up a statue in the category as a result of the new rules.

The canceled CBS talker landed nine Emmy nominations this year. Other nods included in writing, directing music direction, picture editing, sound mixing, lighting design, camerawork and production design.

The FYC video leans into Colbert’s final run of shows with a heavy dose of A-listers. This includes the comedian joking with William Shatner, being serenaded by Bette Midler, Drew Barrymore jokingly reenacting her famous spot on Letterman’s desk, Jennifer Aniston cuddling puppies, drinking with Billy Crystal, therapizing with Oprah Winfrey, throwing furniture off the roof with Letterman, talking about running for President with President Obama, celebrating Christmas with Prince Harry and dancing with Paul McCartney.

‘Possession’ Remake Release Date Set By Paramount

Paramount has set a release date for its remake of the 1981 cult horror film Possession from Smile‘s Parker Finn.

The film, starring Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley, will open wide in theaters on June 11, 2027. It’s set to open against Universal Pictures’ How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Written and directed by Andrzej Żuławski, the original Possession starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill as a married couple in Cold War-era West Berlin whose relationship spirals into supernatural terror. A landmark of arthouse genre cinema, the film won Adjani the prize for Best Actress at Cannes.

Turner and Qualley will star as the couple in this version, with Diego Calva, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Paul Dano rounding out the cast. Finn is directing from his own script and producing alongside Jonathan Fass via Bad Feeling, along with Roy Lee and Andrew Childs via Vertigo, and Robert Pattinson. Marc Bienstock is serving as exec producer.

One week prior to Possession, on June 4, Columbia Pictures unveils its JT Mollner horror film Skeletons, starring Brie Larson, opposite Lionsgate’s John Rambo. The week following, on June 18, Columbia returns with the long anticipated animated threequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
