Jimmy Fallon Stuns ‘Tonight Show’ Audience With Melania Trump Affair Joke
Jimmy Fallon took aim at Donald Trump’s marriage Monday evening, joking that the president’s wife, Melania Trump, was set to run off with one of his political allies amid her notable absence from the spotlight.
“Over the weekend, President Trump made a campaign stop in Long Island and Melania Trump did not travel with him,” Fallon started off during his Monday monologue for “The Tonight Show.” “Yep, people have noticed that she’s been laying low. In fact, she hasn’t been seen in public in 29 days.”
He added: “Trump heard and was like, ‘Big deal. I haven’t seen her in private for two years.”
This joke garnered a big response from the “Tonight Show” studio audience, who burst out laughing and cheered at the jab about the Trumps’ relationship. Fallon didn’t stop there, however.
“I understand Melania’s taken a step back, with everything going on, she’s worried at any moment she could be trapped with Trump inside a catering truck,” Fallon said, referencing the time the president hid in an airport catering truck to switch planes under the radar while facing an assassination threat from Iran.
Fallon concluded his commentary about the Trumps’ marriage with one last joke, telling the crowd: “Yep, no one has seen Melania. All I know is that it’s going to be crazy when we find out she ran off with Mitch McConnell.”
This remark appeared to take Fallon’s audience by surprise, as the crowd audibly responded within seconds. While some could be heard hooting and cheering in response, others appeared to let out a low groan of sorts.
Watch the moment below. A representative for the White House did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Of course, Fallon’s remark was merely a joke, calling back to Sen. McConnell (R-Ky.)’s own lengthy absence this summer. As we previously reported, questions arose regarding McConnell’s well-being after the senator was hospitalized in mid-June and his office gave few updates.
He later released a photo and statement in mid-July, sharing he was hospitalized after becoming “briefly unconscious” following “a fall.”
“My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages,” he shared at the time. “But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital.”
He added: “And on the advice of my doctors, I won’t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet. But rest assured that, in the meantime, I’m not taking a break from the Senate business that matters to you. I’ve been working closely with my legislative staff on current issues, and with my Kentucky team who help me provide timely constituent services across our Commonwealth.”
Though McConnell has since been discharged from a rehabilitation center, he’s yet to return to Washington, D.C.
“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

Noah Centineo Sheds Light on His Exit From ‘Masters of the Universe’
In another universe, Noah Centineo is He-Man in “Masters of the Universe.” However, in this one, the actor chose to step away from the project – and just gave insight into why.
During his Monday appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the “Street Fighter” star opened up about nearly leading the “Masters of the Universe” movie as the sword-wielding comic book hero.
“For a moment there, I was – I guess we can talk about this – was going to do He-Man,” Centineo told host Josh Horowitz. “There was He-Man before ‘Black Adam.’ And that didn’t [work out].”
Horowitz then asked how Centineo ended up leaving the project, given the actor was attached to the movie for some time. Per Centineo, he got pretty close to making the movie, but found himself departing “Masters of the Universe” altogether amid delays.
“We were we were pretty close, dude,” he shared. “I went through the test process. We screen tested loin cloth and stuff. All of it … I signed the contract.”
He continued: “They’re like showing us, you know, previs. They’re showing us kind of the production design, the world building. At the time it was the Nee Brothers that were going to do it … and we got pretty close. And then, for some reason or another, it just pushed and pushed.”
Centineo remembered that the creative team “wanted to keep tweaking it and tweaking it and the contract ran out.”
“And we moved on,” he said. “And then I think Netflix acquired it for a little bit, and then Amazon acquired it and they found [Nicholas Galitzine].”
Despite losing out on the part, Centineo had nothing but praise for Galitzine’s performance, adding, “It’s so difficult to step into a role like that dude. I mean, that’s not an easy movie to make at all. And like, I watched it and Nick is incredible.”
“Like people don’t understand how hard it is to do camp wholeheartedly,” he noted. “It the movie works [or] the movie doesn’t work, often times, especially in that situation, I don’t blame him for that. I loved what he was doing, what he was trying to do.”
Watch Centineo’s comments above.
While Centineo may’ve been a fan of Galitzine’s performance, the live-action adaptation of “Masters of the Universe” received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office. It brought in only $114 million on an estimated $170 million budget.

Rosie O’Donnell Taunts Trump During First Monologue as JKL Host
Rosie O’Donnell stepped in as host for Jimmy Kimmel Monday evening and made herself right at home by taking aim at President Donald Trump during her opening monologue.
“They said you can’t come home again, but here I am,” O’Donnell, who received a standing ovation at the start of the show, said at the beginning of her monologue. “And if you thought the president hated ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ when it was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, buckle up, people, buckle up.”
Later on in her monologue, O’Donnell reflected on her decision to leave the United States for Ireland in 2025, which came about after longtime nemesis Trump started his second term as president.
“I’ve been living in Ireland for the past two years, because of Mango Mussolini, I read that Project 2025 and said, ‘Got to get myself out of here,’” she recalled. “And I decided to go to Ireland, a place where people are driven to drink, regardless of who’s running their country.”
O’Donnell then recalled how her child responded to learning of their move, telling her studio audience, “They went to school and proceeded to tell their entire class, ‘I’m very sorry. I won’t be able to graduate sixth grade with you. I’m being forced to move to another country because the president of the United States hates my mother. But in all fairness, I believe my mother hates him more.’”
The comedian then took a moment to call out President Trump directly, noting into the camera, “Hi, I know you’re watching.”
She poked fun at Trump one last time before signing off her monologue, telling the audience, “And you know, right now he’s in the White House crying ’cause I haven’t mentioned him.”
O’Donnell notably did not say Trump’s name once during her monologue.
Watch her full monologue below.
O’Donnell’s appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” came two months after the eponymous host confirmed that she would be one of his guest hosts during his summer break.
“Well, I hope you’re paying attention this summer because I will be taking the next two months off,” Kimmel told his right-hand Guillermo Rodriguez in June. “This time voluntarily.”
He continued: “But we have assembled a potent group of hosts to fill in for me, beginning with Tiffany Haddish, Colman Domingo, Ike Barinholtz, Anthony Anderson, Jelly Roll and, as a special treat for our commander-in-chief, I asked one of his all-time favorites, Rosie O’Donnell, to be here to keep the hits coming.”
O’Donnell was a notable choice at the time, given her nearly two-decade feud with Trump – which has seen the actress and the president exchange a number of jabs at one another over the years
In response to Kimmel’s invitation, O’Donnell took to Instagram and wrote, “And I can’t wait!!!”
“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.

Charles Esten On Meeting Hayden Panettiere At ‘Nashville’ Audition
Following Connie Britton’s heartfelt tribute to Hayden Panettiere, who died Sunday at the age of 36, fellow Nashville alum Charles Esten also remembered his former co-star.
Esten was a late cast addition to the Nashville pilot and the last series regular to be announced in March 2012 on the country music drama about fading Nashville superstar Rayna James (Britton) who is forced to team up with teen sensation Juliette Barnes (Panettiere).
In his Instagram post Monday next to a gallery of photos with Panettiere from the show, Esten recounted his first audition for the role of guitarist and songwriter Deacon Claybourne in a soundstage office in Hollywood.
“I had read two Deacon scenes before pulling out my guitar and singing two songs. I said my goodbyes and, hoping I’d done well, went to open the door to leave. Instead of swinging all the way out, the door bumped into somebody. Kinda hard,” he wrote. “To my complete surprise, It was Hayden Panettiere, who – in full Juliette Barnes mode – had been listening with her ear to the door. Instead of looking even a little bit caught, her face instantly bloomed into the most beautiful smile. Eyes twinkling, she clapped her hands and said, ‘That was so good!!’ I can promise you that in that moment, there was nothing in the world I needed to hear more than that.”
That was the first time Esten met Panettiere who also was auditioning.
“It was her turn to go in, so as I went to leave, I said a jokingly cocky, “See you on the set!’,” he recalled.
Panettiere landed the role of Juliette weeks before Esten was cast after many rounds of testing.
When he showed up in Nashville, where the series was filmed, to start work, Panettiere “walked right up to me, pointed in my face, and with that magical grin said, ‘See you on the set!’,” Esten wrote. “From there, we became fast friends, working very hard to play those 2 troubled Nashvillians, but always having fun and laughing a whole lot along the way.”
As they butted heads at the start of Nashville, Rayna and Juliette also fought over Deacon. Rayna’s longtime guitarist, who had always been in love with her, accepted Juliette’s offer to co-write songs together and later joined her on tour. (In an unfortunate plot development, the two also hooked up in the third episode, something Nashville fans prefer to forget.)
“She was, of course, extraordinarily talented, infusing her larger-than-life character with all the heart, charisma, humor, whip-smart intelligence, and flat-out magic that were, alongside whatever troubles and pain she carried, a part of her own personal palette,” Esten wrote about Panettiere. “What a great gift it was to act with her, sing with her, and to just be her friend.”
On the show, both Deacon and Juliette struggled with alcoholism, something Panettiere had said hit too hold to home for her as it mirrored her real-life addition problems.
Esten also recalled Panettiere being “extremely kind” to his wife Patty.
“Together, we are heartbroken that she is gone, and praying for her family, and for all those who, like us, will miss and mourn her so dearly,” he wrote. “God bless you, Hayden. Rest In Peace and Light ❤️”
Earlier on Monday, Britton posted her own remembrance on IG, which also featured a series of photos from the set of Nashville.
“I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak,” she wrote. “I love you girl. Sleep easy now. 💔”
