Outer Banks: Does JJ Return in the Final Season?
Note: This story contains spoilers from”Outer Banks” Season 5.
As the Pogues set out on their last adventure for the fifth and final season of “Outer Banks,” Kiara, played by Madison Bailey, held out hope on the legend of the Blue Crown.
Legend has it that the highly coveted artifact, which Chandler Groff stole from the Pogues after tragically killing [SPOILER] JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow) in the Season 4 finale, has capabilities to bring someone back from the dead.
JJ’s presence in Season 5
Kiara (Madison Bailey) witnessed JJ’s death at the hands of his biological father in Morocco and watched him bleed out in her arms. In Season 5, Kiara wants to avenge her boyfriend’s death by killing Groff herself and realizing the Blue Crown’s powers.
Throughout the final season the Pogues travel to Morocco, Croatia and beyond to find the Blue Crown and fulfill its prophecy.
The Pogues mourn JJ’s death throughout the season, but it all came to a head when the crew tracked down the crown’s whereabouts in Croatia in the hands of dangerous pirates.

Does the Blue Crown revive JJ?
The Pogues travel from their home in the Outer Banks to Croatia one last time with hopes of bringing JJ back to life and securing the treasure gold for good this time.
Kiara, John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline) and Pope (Jonthan Daviss) orchestrate a plan to launch an explosive off a cliff that will cause an avalanche and prohibit the pirates from reaching the lake where the Blue Crown’s powers could be enacted.
When the pirates’ van falls off the cliff, Kiara raids the car in a standoff match for the crown. Kiara and John B fend off the pirates, allowing Ki to steal the crown and sneak up to the lake to fulfill the prophecy.
She recites a prayer to the stars and the “god of gods,” begging for JJ to rise. Ki sees several shooting stars, but the prophecy does not immediately come into effect. She pleads and recites the prayer again, but nothing happens.
She begins to cry when a comet-like shooting star emerges in the sky, triggering a series of happy flashbacks from Kiara and JJ’s time together starting from when they saved a dying dolphin on the beach together until his final breath.
Kiara’s encounter with JJ
The other Pogues never fully believed the legend, but Kiara assured them that the crown’s powers do work but not in the way you think it does.
“Kiara could have had anything in that moment,” Bailey told TheWrap of reaching closure with the Blue Crown. “I think a lot of people will watch that scene and be like, “What was that? It was enough for her. It was enough.”
“If you’ve experienced loss, I was like, ‘Oh, I would love to dream about this person, then I closed my eyes and had a dream that night.’ That’s magic. That counts,” she added.
But did Rudy Pankow return for Season 5?
Technically, no.
All of the footage of JJ in Season 5 is from previous seasons of the series or flashbacks to an elementary school-aged JJ and Kiara. Though his presence looms large over the final season, the creators did not bring back Pankow to close out the final chapter.
All episodes of “Outer Banks” Season 5 are available to stream on Netflix.

Naomi Watts Set For Zurich’s Golden Eye Award
Naomi Watts will be honored at the Zurich Film Festival with the Golden Eye Award.
The festival said Watts is being honored for her “outstanding performance in Ben Shirinian’s The Housewife.” Watts will present the film in Zurich. She stars as the enigmatic wife of a suspected Nazi in the feature. Watts will pick up the award on September 26 and take part in a Zurich masterclass session.
“Since her breakthrough in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, Naomi Watts has been one of the most fascinating actresses of our time,” Christian Jungen, CEO of the Zurich Film Festival, said in a statement. “Her greatest performances thrive on the tension between glamour and darkness, between what a character reveals and what she conceals – making her the kind of character actress Hitchcock would have loved.”
Watts was born in 1968 in Shoreham, Kent. She later lived in Wales before moving to Australia with her mother. After working as a model and appearing in smaller roles in Australian television productions, Watts moved to Los Angeles in the 1990s. Some of her screen credits include Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 21 Grams, for which she received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. A second nomination followed in 2013 for her role as a survivor of the 2004 tsunami in The Impossible.
Jungen added: “In The Housewife, she masters this ambiguity as an elegant and mysterious woman. At the same time, the film tells a true story that powerfully illustrates how indispensable investigative journalism is in uncovering historical crimes. Naomi Watts delivers one of the most compelling performances of her career, and we are proud to honor her with the Golden Eye Award.”
The 2026 Zurich Film Festival runs from September 24 to October 4.

‘SoA’s Kurt Sutter Reacts To Charlie Hunnam’s FX Series ‘Legends’
Sons of Anarchy creator/executive producer Kurt Sutter took to Instagram to assure his followers that he is OK with series star Charlie Hunnam and FX doing a meta take on his motorcycle gang drama with new limited series Legends.
“I’m not involved with Legends at all, nor should I be,” Sutter, wearing a yellow beanie, said in the video filmed in a “hot box”. “It has nothing to do with the characters I created or the mythology. It is really about the show and the legacy of the show, and quite frankly, there are thousands of people who are responsible for that legacy.”
Developed and executive produced by Hunnam, Legends stars Hunnam and fellow SoA cast members Ron Perlman, Sutter’s wife Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Ross.
Legends draws parallels to Galaxy Quest. In it, when the cast of Sons of Anarchy (who will all play themselves) reunites at a fan convention after more than a decade, the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show.
“Just want folks to know that Charlie came to me early on, when he was in the process of pitching this to the network, to ask for my blessing, knowing that the IP would probably not be able to be invoked for various reasons of legalese stuff, and I gave Charlie my full blessing,” Sutter said. “I wish nothing but the best for him in this project. My wife is in the project.”
Sutter, who had a recurring role on SoA, was creator executive producer and showrunner of the series, which ran on FX for seven seasons, and co-creator/executive producer of the spinoff Mayans M.C. Sutter was fired from the latter in October 2019 and had some pointed parting words at the time for the bosses who let him go after an internal investigation into cast and crew complaints, longtime collaborators John Landgraf and Dana Walden.
Time tends to heal wounds.
“I have nothing but love for John Landgraf and the folks at FX who have been so good to me, so generous,” Sutter said tonight before giving Legends thumbs-up.
“It has my full-blown watch this motherf*cker because I’ve taken a peek at the script that was perhaps just lying on my wife’s knitting table, and it’s so well done, and I think you’ll dig it,” he said. “I love Charlie to death, and I think you will have mad love for this project as well.”
Legends is developed and executive produced by Hunnam and Jonathan Groff, who serves as showrunner, with Rob Mac, Nicholas Frenkel and Jackie Cohn also serving as executive producers. The series is produced by FX Productions and 20th Television and will be available to watch on FX and Hulu.

Rosie O’Donnell Name-Drops Natalie Harp in Trump Jab on ‘Kimmel’
Rosie O’Donnell very subtly touched on the fascination surrounding Donald Trump’s relationship with White House assistant Natalie Harp, referencing both of them at the start of her monologue.
Specifically, O’Donnell kicked off Wednesday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” which she is guest hosting for the week, with a special message for the president.
“A special hello to those of you watching from home and from the White House,” O’Donnell said at the top of the show. “But I do have some bad news for President Petty Roosevelt. That’s all I’m going to say about you tonight, sweetheart.”
After a round of applause from the studio audience, O’Donnell let one more zinger rip, noting, “You got to realize it’s time to hang up your wig and let Natalie tuck you in.”
This comment prompted a big reaction from the crowd, who could be heard gasping in delight while erupting into applause.
She added: “Time to go nighty night.”
Watch O’Donnell’s Trump comments and the rest of her monologue below. Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
O’Donnell’s mention of Harp came amid growing questions about Trump’s dynamic with the White House staffer. The drama started when Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) suggested in a speech Sunday that Trump simply “wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”
While conservative media responded by blasting Ossoff’s remark as misogynistic and problematic, liberal media capitalized on the moment to dig deeper into Trump and Harp’s bond.
For instance, CNN’s Erin Burnett had Harp’s estranged brother Preston on “OutFront” Tuesday, where he suggested his sister may have an “unhealthy obsession” with the president after learning she reportedly jumped into an SUV trunk to remain close to Trump.
The conversation drew ire from Trump’s son Eric, who blasted the interview as “absolute trash.”
“Natalie is an incredible young woman — a cancer survivor, a genuinely good person, and arguably one of the hardest-working people in the White House,” he added. “She’s deeply committed to my father, to her job, and to this country. From the looks of it, she got all the family genetics. @CNN continues to be a joke.”
