Leeds returned to the top of the Betfred Super League with a convincing 34-6 victory at St Helens on Friday.

The Rhinos scored six tries in a dominant display at the Brewdog Stadium that halted Saints’ recent resurgence and left the Merseysiders outside the play-off places with two games remaining.

Chris Hankinson gave Brad Arthur’s side an early lead before two tries in quick succession from Cameron Smith and Harry Newman put them in complete control late in the first half.

Further touchdowns by Ryan Hall, Ash Handley and Brodie Croft wrapped up a comprehensive win while the influential Jake Connor landed five conversions.

It was a strong response by the Rhinos after Wigan crushed champions Hull KR to move ahead of them on Thursday night.

They controlled the game from the outset, frustrating Saints after interim coach Eamon O’Carroll had overseen back-to-back wins to revive their hopes of forcing their way into the top six.

Leeds’ early pressure paid off after seven minutes when Connor sent Hankinson over for the opening try with a cleverly delayed pass.

Cooper Jenkins thought he had extended the Rhinos’ lead soon after, but his effort was ruled out for a knock-on in the build-up.

Saints gradually began to get into the game but Deon Cross was twice denied out wide, firstly by the Leeds defence and then by the referee after a looping pass from Tristan Sailor was ruled forward.

The hosts were reduced to 12 men when Daniel Suluka-Fifita was sinbinned for a late tackle on Presley Cassell, who had to leave the field for a head injury assessment, which he passed.

Leeds pushed again and Jack Bird went close to grounding a bouncing ball before Smith broke through the defence for a superb individual try.

The visitors added their third just before the interval as Newman finished off a sweeping move in the corner.

The Rhinos thought they had extended the lead further when Tom Holroyd crashed over soon after the restart but the video referee ruled the ball was not grounded.

It proved only a brief respite for Saints as Bird released Hall with a brilliant flick out of the back of his hand and the veteran winger slid over.

Saints finally registered as Jack Welsby broke clear from a Jonny Lomax pass and evaded a last-ditch tackle by Lachie Miller to score, with Sailor converting, but normal service was soon resumed.

Connor put boot to ball to create two more tries, dabbing a delicate grubber for Handley to touch down and then deliberately drilling a kick against the post for Croft to gather and score.

He converted both but failed to add to his tally late on when he hit the post from a penalty.

Huddersfield claim crucial win against play-off chasing Leigh

Huddersfield earned a vital win towards the foot of the table as they beat Leigh 30-18.

Cole Geyer scored twice as the Giants ran in five tries to move to 14 points and above second-bottom York.

Owen Trout gave visitors Leigh a perfect start as he scored the opening try in the 10th minute, with Adam Cook converting.

But the Giants, in danger at the wrong end of the division, levelled through Harry Rushton before Taane Milne crossed to give them a 14-6 half-time lead.

Niall Evalds’ try after the restart gave them some breathing space before an end-to-end encounter followed.

Umyla Hanley brought the Leopards back into it with a 59th-minute try only for Geyer to score at the other end seven minutes later.

Robbie Mulhern scored another try for Leigh to keep the home nerves jangling, only for Geyer to bag his second try of the night to seal the win.

Catalans thrash Castleford after power cut!

Catalans Dragons game at Castleford was paused for 35 minutes during the second half due to a power outage before the visitors eventually ran out 34-6 winners.

Catalans climb to eighth in the table after a comfortable victory, with a pair of tries from Toby Sexton plus further scorers from Edenn Rogers-Smith, Leo Darrelatour, Ben Condon and Lewis Dodd.

Castleford were marking 100 years since their first match but it was a night to forget, with Lazarus Vaalepu scoring their only try in a dispiriting defeat.

Sexton touched down under the posts early on, after Darrelatour found him with a neat kick down the left. Rogers-Smith added a second try for Catalans, before Vaalepu crossed under the posts on his home debut.

Darrelatour then went over for his second try before, with the score at 16-6, the power went leading to a lengthy delay. When play resumed, a fine Charlie Staines drive set up Condon to ensure the game was put beyond Castleford before Dodd and Sexton added two more scores for good measure.

Miami Dolphins fans greeted Tua Tagovailoa with boos Friday night in his return to the stadium he once called home.

But the Atlanta Falcons quarterback insisted that while he heard those boos, they didn’t taint his perspective on the place he spent the first six years of his NFL career.

“Those are probably some of the best six years of my life, being able to play for Miami, being able to play in front of the crowd,” Tagovailoa said after Friday night’s preseason finale between the Dolphins and Falcons at Hard Rock Stadium.

“… So, regardless of the reaction, I love the city. We have a home out here, we still have our house and whatnot, but I mean, it is what it is. I can’t change any of what they did and whatnot. But it was really cool to see a lot of the guys after the game and then talk to some of the guys during the game. It was a cool homecoming, if you will.”

Tagovailoa was released by the Dolphins in March, resulting in a record $99.2 million in dead money on Miami’s cap sheet two years after the franchise signed him to a contract extension that made him one of the highest-paid players in NFL history.

The Dolphins reached the playoffs twice in the six seasons after they selected Tagovailoa with the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Alabama product suffered through multiple head injuries during that time, and the team struggled over his final two seasons, going 15-19 as Tagovailoa started 25 of 34 games.

Tagovailoa’s play not only suffered in 2025, but he also made headlines for saying the wrong things, and he was eventually benched after the team’s 28-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15.

“Obviously, it wasn’t fun being in my position,” Tagovailoa said. “But outside of that, I wasn’t playing up to the standard that I had been playing in years past, so I understand. You have to be real with yourself. That’s what it was, bottom line. Outside of that, with how things went after, with a trade or cutting me or whatnot, I think (coach Jeff) Hafley and (general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan), they were really, really good in that process with me.”

Tagovailoa, who is competing with Michael Penix Jr. for the starting job in Atlanta, fumbled a snap late in the first quarter that was recovered by the Dolphins. Aside from that, he put together a decent performance, completing 7 of 8 passes for 95 yards.
