BBC Poirot Series Casts Katherine Parkinson & Toby Stephens

Published

on

EXCLUSIVE: The BBC and BritBox’s Poirot series Hercule has unveiled more cast including Katherine Parkinson (Rivals), Omari Douglas (Black Doves) and Toby Stephens (Jane Eyre).

As with previous cast releases, the trio’s roles are being kept under wraps, but they come as the BBC and BritBox reveal the second book to be adapted for Mammoth Screen’s TV show will be Agatha Christie’s Peril at End House, following Lord Edgware Dies. The third novel the show will be part-based on is still to be revealed.

Other new cast include Jessica Alexander (The Beauty), Honor Swinton Byrne (The Souvenir), Paul Forman (Emily in Paris), Arthur Hughes (Shardlake), Ralf Little (Death in Paradise), River Medway (RuPaul’s Drag Race UK) and Natalie Quarry (Call the Midwife).

Deadline revealed earlier this year that Hercule was in the works and Edward Bluemel is playing the lead. The six-episode show is billed as “an intimate study of Hercule Poirot” while introducing the world’s greatest fictional detective to “future friends, allies and one particular nemesis.” Intrigue surrounds who will play which roles, and the identity of the nemesis. Peril at End House features Christie fan favorites like Arthur Hustings and Chief Inspector Japp and is set in Cornwall, where Poirot and Hastings meet a young woman who is persuaded that someone is out to kill her.

The show is currently filming in Liverpool and comes as Christie adaptations continue to rate, with Netflix’s Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials recently drawing in big audiences.

Written by Benji Walters (Code of Silence), the first two episodes are being directed by Jonny Campbell (Am I Being Unreasonable?), with Chanya Button (Code of Silence) and Alrick Riley (Bridgerton) directing the second two episodes and the final two episodes respectively. The executive producers are Walters and Campbell, James Prichard for Agatha Christie Limited, Rebecca Durbin and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, Nick Lambon for the BBC, and Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar, and Stephen Nye for BritBox. Charlie Palmer (A Woman Of Substance) serves as series producer. Fifth Season is handling global distribution.

Rachel Jupp Named BBC News and Current Affairs Director

Published

on

Rachel Jupp has been named director of BBC News and Current Affairs, taking over one of the world’s largest news operations nearly a year after Deborah Turness resigned from the role.

Jupp, who currently serves as director of BBC News Documentaries and Long Form Journalism, will begin the new job later this month, according to the BBC. She will oversee roughly 4,500 employees across a news operation that reaches audiences in more than 40 languages worldwide.

The appointment puts Jupp in charge of the BBC’s sprawling domestic and international news operation as the broadcaster continues adapting its journalism to changing audience habits.

“I’m honoured to be asked to lead BBC News,” Jupp said in a Monday statement, adding that she wants to champion the broadcaster’s “independent and impartial journalism” and deepen audience trust.

Jupp succeeds Turness, the former NBC News president who resigned as CEO of BBC News and Current Affairs last November alongside then-BBC director general Tim Davie. Their departures followed criticism over a “Panorama” documentary that spliced together portions of President Donald Trump’s Jan. 6 speech from 2021.

The BBC later apologized for the edit, saying it created the mistaken impression that Trump had made a direct call for violent action. Trump subsequently sued the broadcaster over the documentary, while the BBC has sought to have the lawsuit dismissed.

Jonathan Munro has served as interim director of BBC News since Turness’ departure.

Jupp joined the BBC in 2013 after working at Channel 4 News and has held senior editorial roles including deputy editor of “Newsnight” and, notably, editor of “Panorama.” She most recently helped lead the broadcaster’s work around generative artificial intelligence.

Her appointment gives the BBC a permanent news chief as it continues navigating questions around trust and impartiality while restructuring its global news operation and cutting costs.

‘Things We Never Got Over’ Amazon Series Adaptation Adds 6 To Cast

Sean Teale (Doctor Odyssey, Only Murders in the Building), Sarah Jeffery (The Six Triple Eight, Charmed), Megan Stott (Penelope, Little Fires Everywhere), Lili Simmons (Double Down South, Power Book IV: Force), Anthony Keyvan (Just Picture It, XO, Kitty) and JoBeth Williams (Poltergeist, Behemoth!) have joined the cast of Things We Never Got Over, Prime Video‘s series adaptation of Lucy Score’s bestselling novel of the same name. They join previously announced leads Molly Griggs, Matthew Noszka and Tommy Martinez.

Things We Never Got Over, from Ringer creators Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, follows runaway bride Naomi Witt (Griggs), who arrives in the quirky town of Knockemout, Virginia; she expects to rescue her estranged twin (Griggs) and return to the life she left behind. Instead, her sister disappears, leaving Naomi with a niece she never knew existed, a town full of irresistible characters — including charming local sheriff Nash Morgan (Martinez) and his decidedly grumpy but infuriatingly sexy brother Knox Morgan (Noszka) — and a future she never imagined.

Teale will play Lucian; Jeffery will portray Sloane; Stott is Waylay; Simmons will play Lina; Keyvan will portray Stef and Williams is Liza J.

The first book in Score’s Knockemout trilogy, Things We Never Got Over, is a New York Times bestseller and one of the most-read titles on Kindle Unlimited since its release in 2022, with sequels completing the trilogy in 2023.

Charmelo and Snyder wrote the pilot for the upcoming series adaptation and will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Gina Girolamo will executive produce through her production company, Strega Stories. Book author Lucy Score will serve as co-executive producer. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
