Luke Littler: World number one knocked out of World Youth Championships in semi-finals

Published

on

Luke Littler missed out on the chance to hold the senior and youth world titles simultaneously after suffering a surprise semi-final defeat at the World Youth Championship.

The 19-year-old world number one was beaten 6-5 by world number 68 Cam Crabtree, who will face German Jan Schmidt in the final on 29 November.

That match will take place on finals day at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead – an event Littler has also yet to qualify for having skipped the majority of Pro Tour events this season.

He is currently ranked 126th in the Players Championship order of merit and only the top 64 qualify.

Four Players Championship events remain, but two of those are in Den Bosch in the Netherlands – where Littler withdrew from events recently after being subjected to boos by the crowds.

Littler has won successive full World Championships and won the youth title as a 16-year-old in 2023, but the semi-final loss to 23-year-old Crabtree was his second successive exit at that stage having lost to Beau Greaves in 2025. He could though enter four more times, with the tournament open to players aged 23 or under at the start of the season.

The loss is the latest in a series of surprise exits for Littler, who was knocked out of the World Grand Prix in the first round by Luke Woodhouse and lost to Jonny Clayton in the quarter-finals of the World Series of Darts finals.

Golden Boy 2026: Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly among Premier League stars on 25-man shortlist for Europe’s best U21 player | Football News

Published

on

Arsenal and England midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly has been included in the 25-man shortlist for this year’s Golden Boy award.

The 20-year-old is one of eight Premier League players in contention for the prize, presented by Italian publication Tuttosport, which is awarded to the best U21 men’s player in Europe.

Bournemouth and Brighton both have two players among the finalists, making up half of the Premier League contingent. Eli Junior Kroupi and Rayan are in contention for Bournemouth, while Brighton have Luka Vuskovic and Charalampos Kostoulas.

Chelsea also have two shortlisted players in Estevao Willian and Jorrel Hato, while Manchester City’s summer-signing Ayyoub Bouaddi is the other Premier League star on the list.

Last five Golden Boy winners

  • 2025: Desire Doue
  • 2024: Lamine Yamal
  • 2023: Jude Bellingham
  • 2022: Gavi
  • 2021: Pedri

Lamine Yamal, the odds-on favourite for this year’s Ballon d’Or, is ruled out because he has already won the award.

However, his Spain and Barcelona team-mate, Pau Cubarsi, named best young player at the summer’s World Cup, is among the strongest contenders.

Barcelona have three players shortlisted, more than any other club, with Marc Bernal and Xavi Espart also included.

Real Madrid have two players in the mix with Yan Diomande and Endrick, while Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaire-Emery and Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl also make the cut.
