‘The Social Reckoning’ Review: Aaron Sorkin’s Journo Drama Drags

You will be redirected back to your article in seconds

Oscar winner Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White star as a whistleblower and a reporter with a dream (opposite a miscast Jeremy Strong) in a draggy, so-what journo drama that’s more agitprop for the Sorkin brand than a paean to the press.

Turner Classic Movies To Sit Within Skydance Film Group

Published

on

EXCLUSIVE: Three years ago, following the last merger involving Warner Bros., Turner Classic Movies came under the spotlight, after filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson called an emergency meeting with David Zaslav about restructuring the network.

Now that Skydance has brought together Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount, the network has a new spot in the corporate structure.

Deadline understands that the channel, which airs classic films such as They Shoot Horses, Don’t They, The Blob and The Asphalt Jungle, will be housed within Skydance Motion Picture Group, which is now led by Co-Chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein.

The move makes sense given that it was previously run by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group bosses Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, who left ahead of the Paramount/WBD deal, after Spielberg, Scorsese and Anderson’s involvement.

At the time of the original move, De Luca and Abdy reported into then-U.S. Networks Chief Kathleen Finch on the channel and some elements of the operational side of the business remained under the portfolio of Channing Dungey when she took over Finch’s network responsibilities in 2025.

Earlier this week, Goldberg and Greenstein said that they they see themselves as “stewards of two of the most storied studios in Hollywood history”, which bodes well for TCM.

Dungey, who reports to George Cheeks, Co-Chair and Chief Content Officer, Skydance TV and JB Perrette, Co-Chair & Chief Business Officer, Skydance TV and Skydance DTC, now oversees all of the company’s 50+ cable networks, taking on oversight of Paramount networks such as MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Nickelodeon.

There have also been other key hires in the cable distribution space in recent days; Ray Hopkins was just named President, Distribution, and he will be tasked with handling negotiations with pay-TV operators for the 50-plus cable networks at Skydance as well as CBS, with the resulting deals supplying much-needed revenue for the debt-laden company.

Chuck Lorre Responds To Trump Via ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ Vanity Card

Published

on

Chuck Lorre is thanking the White House for its “very public concern” over his mental health – or, as an administration spokesperson called it, “Trump Derangement Syndrome” – but something tells us the Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage producer is being something less than sincere.

The latest volley in the back-and-forth arrives tonight at the end of the George & Mandy‘s season 3 premiere, when a vanity card flashes on screen with Lorre’s new riposte.

First, some background. Last week, Lorre took the stage at a Project Angel Food charity gala in Los Angeles, and made known his feelings about Trump. “Sure, I’d love to stand here and talk about my deep yearning for a more compassionate government, one that prioritizes the health and welfare of its citizens,” he said, according to The Daily Beast. “But the burden of my profession demands that I take this opportunity to say a few words about that bloated orange piece of sh*t in the White House.”

The Stuart Fails to Save the Universe creator continued, “I’d love to express my gratitude to all the people who’ve devoted their lives to making Project Angel Food an oasis for those in need. That would be my preference. But because I’m a comedy writer, I have no choice but to explain how I wake up every morning to turn on CNN to see if the president of the United States had a heart attack while straining to take a dump.”

On Saturday, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told Fox News Digital in a statement, “Chuck Lorre should immediately seek psychiatric help to treat his severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has completely rotted his peanut-sized brain.”

So, back to Lorre. Tonight’s vanity card reads:

“A spokesperson for the White House recently announced that I need psychiatric help. I don’t disagree. I’m not a big fan of mood-altering drugs or electroshock therapy, you know, Cuckoo’s Nest stuff, but I would be up for a chat with a trained professional who gently encourages me to seek out childhood experiences that negativelyimpact my thinking and behavior. (A possible culprit could be weekly atomic bomb drills in grade school. This involved hiding under my desk to avoid being cut to ribbons from the classroom windows exploding.) It might also be worth investigating if toxins in my environment bear any responsibility for my ‘derangement.’ (Can’t ignore all those mesothelioma commercials.) Regardless of how we proceed, I do appreciate this very public concern for my mental health. It’s comforting to know my government is looking out for me.”

As for tonight’s season premiere episode itself, the logline reads: Tensions rise when Mandy and the family side against Georgie in his fight with Mary. Meanwhile, Connor turns to Georgie when he gets himself into trouble.” Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage airs Thursday, 8 p.m. ET/PT, on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. The Young Sheldon spin-off stars Montana Jordan, Emily Osment, Rachel Bay Jones, Will Sasso, Dougie Baldwin and Jessie Prez, and comes Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television. Lorre and Steve Holland serve as executive producers.

Lorre’s book, Sitcom: A Memoir, will be released on October 13.
