Rai Cinema International Distribution has boarded sales on Marco Bellocchio’s financial thriller Falcon, inspired by the life of late Fiat-Chrysler automobile exec Sergio Marchionne, as it films in Toronto.
In new casting additions, previously announced lead Pierfrancesco Favino is being joined by Louis Garrel, Benedetta Cimatti and Barbara Ronchi, with the participation of Valeria Bruni Tedeschi.
The picture delves into the story of the Marchionne, the Italian-Canada automobile exec credited with reviving Italy’s Turin-based car company Fiat in the 2000s and merging it with then ailing U.S. auto manufacturer Chrysler.
It will recount how Sergio Marchionne (Favino) came to the rescue of Italy’s most famous car manufacturer in 2004 as it lay on the verge of collapse in the wake of the death of its longtime boss, the legendary industrialist Gianni Agnelli.
Ruthless and visionary, Marchionne axed the top management. He then took Agnelli’s grandson, John Elkann (Garrel), under his wing to teach the young heir, suddenly burdened with the family’s legacy, the art of command.
Marchionne then took on the U.S. car manufacturer General Motors, disentangling Fiat from a disadvantage strategic alliance, and went on to save rival Chrysler from bankruptcy by merging it with Fiat.
Falcon is co-written by Marco Bellocchio with Ludovica Rampoldi, Andrea Di Stefano, Stefano Rulli and with the participation of Oliviero Del Papa.
Talking to Deadline about the project last year, Bellocchio said of Marchionne: “I’m fascinated by his journey and his ability, as an Italian who stood up to American big business, to defend Fiat and then even take over Chrysler, which was bankrupt, to make a major group.”
He also revealed that the title of Falcon is inspired by the fact that Marchionne would always travel on a Falcon business jet.
“He would travel went back and forth from Turin on a Falcon, so we’ve given it this title,” he said.
Falcon is produced by Kavac Film, Rai Cinema, with Emotion Network in collaboration with STLA Europe.
The feature has already shot for two weeks in September in Toronto and Niagara Falls, moving to the Piedmont region of Italy and to Rome, and then returning to Canada and the United States in early 2027. 01 Distribution will release the film in Italy.
The project reunites Bellocchio with a number of longtime creative collaborators, including production designer Andrea Castorina, costume designer Daria Calvelli, and editor Francesca Calvelli, all of whom worked on Bellocchio on projects including The Traitor, Exterior Night and Kidnapped. He is also joined for the first time by director of photography Matteo Cocco (The Weight, Hidden Away).

Niamh Algar and French cinema legend Fanny Ardant are leading a thriller series set in an AI-controlled, high-end luxury resort.
Harmonia is a rare UK-Greek co-pro coming from Adolescence co-producer Warp Films, ITV Studios and Greek pubcaster ERT.
In Harmonia, Algar is the AI’s creator, Shona Casey, while Ardant plays the resort’s former owner. In the resort and wellness facility, technology meets escapism and every guest’s desire can be fulfilled. It reflects things we all aspire to, but also fear. It’s a modern-day Frankenstein story of a scientist who would be God, and their extraordinary creation, where it becomes increasingly unclear whether the AI is the monster, or whether the humans are.
Chloe Lea (Dune: Prophecy, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) plays a young member of staff that the AI becomes obsessed with, while the cast includes Oliver Chris (Rivals, The Crown), Abubakar Salim (House of the Dragon, Raised by Wolves), Goran Bogdan (Legacy of Spies, The Last Panthers), Theo Augier (XO Kitty, Jay Kelly) and George Ioannides (Guys and Dolls, Industry). Completing the ensemble are Greek stars Pygmalion Dadakaridis (The Other Me, Rififi), rising TV and theatre actor Konstantinos Zografos (The Judge, Derti) Antigoni Frida (Grand Hotel, Sauté) and newcomer Zoe-Stella Nikolaou.
The coming together of UK and Greek teams sees the series created by Peter Carlton, Lefteris Charitos, Amanda Livanou and Hanna Jameson. Charitos, director of Wild Bees, one of Greek television’s biggest ever successes, directs all six episodes. Jameson, best-selling author of The Last and writer on the upcoming Netflix series The Twin starring Jamie Dornan, is lead writer, with episodes from Alki Papastathopoulos and Panayotis Christopoulos.
Jameson said: “With this project, I had the chance to tell a truly meaningful story full of funny, strange, and complicated characters, reminiscent of the legendary genre shows I grew up watching. It’s been so exciting to explore how our relationship with technology has changed so fast in such a short period of time, evolving faster than our ability to understand the personal and global consequences. When I’m gripped by a great show everything else falls away, the house could burn down around me and I wouldn’t notice, and I hope that people feel the same way about Harmonia.”
Shooting takes place on location in Athens at Cape Sounio resort and Kapa2 Studios ahead of launch in 2027. Harmonia is produced in association with and distributed internationally by ITV Studios. It is co-financed by ITV Studios, and Greek public broadcaster ERT, with development support from the Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Fund and Creative Europe Media. The predominantly English-language series is an international co-production between Warp, which co-produced Adolescence with Brad Pitt’s Plan B, and award-winning Greek feature film producers Neda Film (Pity, Gorgonà).

EXCLUSIVE: Alternativa Distribution has acquired selected rights to features including Berlin Film Festival opener No Good Men ahead of making its debut at the MIPCOM market in Cannes.
The fledgling distributor has acquired several other festival and award-nominated movies ahead of MIPCOM. It will present Akio Fujimoto’s Lost Land to buyers, as well as Abinash Bikram Shah’s Elephants in the Fog and Kaouther Ben Hania’s Four Daughters.
Alternativa Distribution will shop Elephants in the Fog in multiple territories across Asia and Latin America; No Good Men in multiple territories across Asia and the MENA region; Four Daughters in multiple territories across Latin America and Asia; and Lost Land across Southeast Asia, ex-Malaysia, the Nordics, Poland and Portugal.
Alternativa launched its distribution arm earlier this year to sell impact-driven films to broadcasters and streamers. The Alternativa Distribution division is run by former yesDocu and TikTok exec Avital Lavi.
It launched with a ten-film slate including the Un Certain Regard titles If Only I Could Hibernate and A Poet.
The new acquisitions come with strong awards and festival pedigree. Elephants in the Fog competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival this year, winning the Jury Prize. It was also Nepal’s submission for the Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards.
Lost Land won the Orizzonti Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. Four Daughters shared the L’Œil d’Or for Best Documentary at Cannes. It was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards.
Alternativa is a not-for-profit org that supports films from the Global South. Having started out as an awards program for films from Central Asia, Alternativa then initiated a full-fledged festival with editions in Indonesia and Colombia.
“With our second film slate, we are expanding our global reach to give buyers and audiences access to even more exceptional, high-impact storytelling,” Lavi said.
“Our latest acquisitions have already proven themselves on the world stage – from a Cannes prize-winner to acclaimed titles featured at Venice and the Berlinale. We’re incredibly proud to represent them and look forward to getting them in front of broadcasters and streaming platforms.”

EXCLUSIVE: Lightdox has acquired international sales rights to Nostalgia for the Future leading into Film Fest Gent in Belgium where the documentary screens on Sunday.
The film narrated by Oscar-nominated actress Charlotte Rampling examines the enigmatic filmmaker Chris Marker (1921-2012), one of the most influential figures in the history of cinema. The Belgium–Netherlands–Italy co-production, directed by Brecht Debackere, made its world premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival.
“Chris Marker, filmmaker, photographer, writer and multimedia artist behind such landmark works as La Jetée and Sans Soleil, spent much of his life deliberately avoiding the public eye,” notes a synopsis. “Famously elusive, he rarely gave interviews and would sometimes send photographs of his cats instead of portraits of himself. He once described himself as the ‘best-known author of unknown films.’

“In Nostalgia for the Future, Debackere enters the labyrinth of Marker’s legacy through the 550 boxes of his personal archive, now held by the Cinémathèque française. Guided by Rampling’s distinctive voice, an unnamed archivist moves through photographs, documents, film fragments and personal traces, attempting to reconstruct the man who chose to disappear behind his own images.”
Instead of a traditional biography, the film approaches Marker “through the associative logic of his work,” according to a release. “The archive becomes a living system of memory, while Marker’s images become ‘time machines,’ fragments through which the past, present and possible futures begin to overlap.”

Nostalgia for the Future, a co-production between Visualantics, SeriousFilm, Cobra Films and Ghirigori, is produced by Steven Dhoedt.
In a statement, Lightdox CEO Anna Berthollet commented, “Chris Marker left behind an archive as enigmatic as the man himself. Brecht Debackere has found a remarkably cinematic way into this world, creating not simply a portrait of Marker, but a meditation on images, memory and the way we imagine the future. A film that speaks directly to what Lightdox looks for: bold, author-driven documentaries with a distinctive cinematic language and the power to open new ways of seeing.”
Brecht Debackere (Exprmntl) wrote and directed the film. The directors of photography are Jerome De Gerlache, Alexi Van Hennecker, and Ben Grinand; Beppe Leonetti edited the film. The original score is by Rutger Zuydervelt and Niels Borrey.
In addition to Sunday’s debut at Film Fest Gent, Nostalgia for the Future screens at the festival on Monday and Thursday. You can watch the film’s trailer here:
