EXCLUSIVE: For the first time since its 2024 launch, Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis will return to theaters in a limited engagement that will allow audiences to interact with the iconic director. Coppola decided when he self-financed and shot the provocative film that it would not be put through any domestic-based streaming services or DVDs produced for the U.S. market. He felt it was now time to put it back out.
Reading International, Inc. has booked the film in many its cinemas nationwide (from New York to Hawaii) to screen simultaneously on October 24, 2026. Venues will include Village East Cinemas in New York, and venues around the country. This will be followed by a live-streamed Q&A with Coppola, moderated by his son and collaborator, Roman Coppola, who was second unit director on the picture. Audience members will be able to text-in their questions before, during, and after the film. The filmmaker will answer the best ones live during the presentation.
“Megalopolis is back in its rightful place, Theaters, and the interest in seeing it as was intended is growing, said Coppola. “I am excited to take part in an interactive Q & A across multiple theaters simultaneously.”
Coppola spent a fortune to personally stake a film that became one of the most expensive indies ever, one he’d been dreaming about for decades. Much the way that audiences continue to discover his other films, Coppola hoped Megalopolis would follow a similar track, and that it will be viewed and debated long after he has passed away. He believes its themes of rebuilding cities and the polarizing political factions will be continually relevant. The film’s ensemble cast is headed by Adam Driver, Shia LaBeouf, Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voight, Nathalie Emmanuel, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza and Giancarlo Esposito.
Each screening will also include hard copy letters from Francis given to each audience member, containing his official director’s statement about the film for audience members to read before watching the film. Each screening will also include the famed unique “Live Element,” which was only available at select screenings when the film was first released. Megalopolis will find its way back in theaters periodically going forward, including the tradition of the film screening at multiple theaters every New Year’s Day. This fulfills a wish from Coppola to have the film be shown on this day as a symbol of coming together and discussing ideas for improvement as a society.

Black Bear has acquired domestic rights to Honeymoon / Funeral, an MRC rom-com starring Rebecca Ferguson, Greta Lee and Carrie Coon that wrapped production in September.
Sources said the project is one of a handful to have been successfully shopped at the newly created TIFF market, alongside Josh Giuliano’s horror flick River and the Michelle Yeoh starrer The Surgeon.
Directed by two-time Emmy nominee Nahnatchka Khan, Honeymoon / Funeral follows two women (Ferguson and Lee) who meet on a flight from LA to London – one en route to her honeymoon by herself after being left at the altar by her girlfriend, the other headed home for her mother’s funeral – and wind up spending the week together.
Khan and Jennifer Carreras produced for Fierce Baby, alongside Emmy nominee Julia Bicknell, who penned the script. MRC financed and oversaw production, with FilmNation Entertainment acting as worldwide sales agent.
Katie Anderson, Black Bear’s EVP of Acquisitions, called Honeymoon / Funeral “an original and hilarious story that is deeply human, anchored by the performances of Rebecca, Greta, and Carrie, three of the best actresses working today.”
Anderson added, “We can’t wait to partner with our friends at MRC and FilmNation to share this world that Nahnatchka and Julia have created with audiences.”
Next up for domestic release via Black Bear is Wicker, starring Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, and Peter Dinklage, on October 23.

A24 and Square Peg are in negotiations to adapt Emma Cline’s bestselling novel The Guest, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Writer-director Lorene Scafaria is talks to direct with Stranger Things star Sadie Sink in talks to star and produce alongside Square Peg.
Cline‘s 2023 novel, published by Penguin Random House, centers on a calculating grifter who navigates the treacherous world of summer in the Hamptons.
The full synopsis reads: “Summer is coming to a close on the East End of Long Island, and Alex is no longer welcome. A misstep at a dinner party, and the older man she’s been staying with dismisses her with a ride to the train station and a ticket back to the city. With few resources and a waterlogged phone, but gifted with an ability to navigate the desires of others, Alex stays on Long Island and drifts like a ghost through the hedged lanes, gated driveways, and sun-blasted dunes of a rarefied world that is, at first, closed to her. Propelled by desperation and a mutable sense of morality, she spends the week leading up to Labor Day moving from one place to the next, a cipher leaving destruction in her wake.“
The Guest was longlisted for the Pen/Faulkner award, as well as named a Belletrist Book Club pick and best book of the year by a myriad of publications including The New Yorker, Time, and NPR.
Cline‘s recent book release Switzy was longlisted for this year‘s Booker Prize. Her 2016 debut novel, The Girls, sold in a three-book deal at the time worth $2 million. The Girls was loosely inspired by the 1969 Manson family murders.
In a 2023 interview with Vanity Fair Cline said of The Guest, “I started it in 2016. I love books like The Talented Mr. Ripley, where there are characters who you follow through the narrative that are operating outside the bounds of our moral code. There’s something fun about following that kind of chaos. The setting came out of, What would be a fun foil for this kind of character, and what kind of world makes sense?“
Sink most recently starred in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in which she made her official MCU debut as Jean Grey. She will reprise the role in the new X-Men film slated for a 2028 release that will also star Kit Connor (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott (Prof. X), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Inde Navarrette (Rogue) and Maya Boyd (Storm). Adam Driver was cast as the villain Mr. Sinister.
In addition to directing Hustlers starring Jennifer Lopez, Scafaria‘s other writing and directing credits include Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, The Meddler, and the adapted screenplay for Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Her TV credits include New Girl, Succession and HBO‘s I Love LA, which she serves as executive producer and director.
Sink is represented by WME, Peikoff Mahan and imPRint. Scafaria is repped by UTA and Sloane Offer.
Deadline first reported the news.
