Screen Gems Hires YouTube Executive To Run Genre Label

Published

on

Sony Pictures Entertainment said Friday that it has tapped Fede Goldenberg, a veteran YouTube content partnership exec, as head of Screen Gems.

He replaces Ashley Brucks, who had been President of Screen Gems since 2023. Sony said today that she will segue to a producing role on some upcoming Screen Gems projects, which were not named in today’s release announcing the exec shuffle.

Goldenberg will report to Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, who announced the hire.

The change comes amid a wave of content creator-driven genre hits at the summer box office, with Curry Barker’s Obsession, Kane Parsons’ Backrooms and Markiplier’s Iron Lung leading the way. Sony said the change atop its genre label marks a new creative strategy, saying it will “expand its longstanding focus on traditional genre films to include theatrical projects from the next generation of digital-native storytellers.”

Goldenberg has developed strong relationships in the content creator space via spending the past 15 years at YouTube after stints ant MCNs like Maker Studios and Fullscreen. Most recently at YouTube he was Head of TV & Film Content Partnerships, working with studios to boots their global footprints across the platform. He also helped drive major creator initiatives including Markiplier’s exclusive digital release of Iron Lung.

Screen Gems’ most recently releases were Insidious: Out of the Further, which has earned $169.5 million globally after its mid-August release, and before that July’s Evil Dead: Burn in a team-up with New Line and Ghost House that grossed $72.4 million worldwide.

Brucks had arrived at Screen Gems after a tenure at Paramount that included bringing in the original Paranormal Activity. She also helped to relaunch the Scream franchise in 2022, and oversaw A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II.

THR reported the Goldenberg hire earlier today.

May Cobb’s ‘All The Little Houses’ TV Adaptation Goes To Apple

Published

on

EXCLUSIVE: In a highly competitive situation, Apple TV has landed the rights to develop All the Little Houses, a drama series based on the recently published novel from The Hunting Wives’ May Cobb.

Cobb is co-creating the show with Naomi Sheldon, of Prime Video’s The Girlfriend, who will be its writer. Fifth Season will serve as the studio and Kristen Campo’s Campout Productions and Linden Entertainment will serve as executive producers.

All the Little Houses is set in the wealthy enclave of Longview, Texas, where Charleigh Anderson has clawed her way from outcast to undisputed queen bee. But when a seemingly perfect, prairie-kissed family arrives in town — complete with a trad-wife mother, woodworking father, and wholesome daughter — Charleigh finds her carefully constructed world under threat. As two formidable women go head-to-head, their battle for the soul of Longview exposes the secrets, resentments, and desires lurking beneath its picture-perfect surface.

A native Texan screenwriter and bestselling author of page-turners, Cobb is best known for The Hunting Wives, which served as the basis for the hit Southern gothic Netflix series, on which she’s an executive producer. The show premiered last summer as the third most popular on the global English-language chart, hitting the Top 10 list in 40 countries and reaching No. 1 in 10, including the U.S, with billions of minutes viewed. Starring the likes of Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, The Hunting Wives returns for its second season on November 26.

Cobb released All the Little Houses in January; its sequel, All the Little Secrets, is out November 17. She is repped by Victoria Sanders Agency, Jordan Cerf of Linden Productions and Darren Trattner from Jackoway.

Sheldon is a playwright, screenwriter, and actress known for co-creating The Girlfriend, a limited series based on the thriller novel by Michelle Frances, for Amazon and Imaginarium. Starring Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke, and directed by Wright, the show premiered last fall and was nominated for Best Limited Series at both the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards.

In a multi-studio bidding war, Sheldon sold her next project, an original erotic thriller, to Netflix with Media Res. Most recently, she wrapped the writers’ room for The Spot, Ed Solomon’s Hulu/A24 crime drama series starring Claire Danes and Ewan McGregor. Currently developing original projects with Carnival, Firebird, and David Jonsson’s Grey Area, she is represented by CAA, Independent Talent, and Ziffren Brittenham.

Francis Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ Back To Theaters

Published

on

EXCLUSIVE: For the first time since its 2024 launch, Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis will return to theaters in a limited engagement that will allow audiences to interact with the iconic director. Coppola decided when he self-financed and shot the provocative film that it would not be put through any domestic-based streaming services or DVDs produced for the U.S. market. He felt it was now time to put it back out.

Reading International, Inc. has booked the film in many its cinemas nationwide (from New York to Hawaii) to screen simultaneously on October 24, 2026. Venues will include Village East Cinemas in New York, and venues around the country. This will be followed by a live-streamed Q&A with Coppola, moderated by his son and collaborator, Roman Coppola, who was second unit director on the picture. Audience members will be able to text-in their questions before, during, and after the film. The filmmaker will answer the best ones live during the presentation.

“Megalopolis is back in its rightful place, Theaters, and the interest in seeing it as was intended is growing, said Coppola. “I am excited to take part in an interactive Q & A across multiple theaters simultaneously.”

Coppola spent a fortune to personally stake a film that became one of the most expensive indies ever, one he’d been dreaming about for decades. Much the way that audiences continue to discover his other films, Coppola hoped Megalopolis would follow a similar track, and that it will be viewed and debated long after he has passed away. He believes its themes of rebuilding cities and the polarizing political factions will be continually relevant. The film’s ensemble cast is headed by Adam Driver, Shia LaBeouf, Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voight, Nathalie Emmanuel, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza and Giancarlo Esposito.

Each screening will also include hard copy letters from Francis given to each audience member, containing his official director’s statement about the film for audience members to read before watching the film. Each screening will also include the famed unique “Live Element,” which was only available at select screenings when the film was first released. Megalopolis will find its way back in theaters periodically going forward, including the tradition of the film screening at multiple theaters every New Year’s Day. This fulfills a wish from Coppola to have the film be shown on this day as a symbol of coming together and discussing ideas for improvement as a society.
