Danny Trejo is heading to Spain. The veteran character actor has joined the cast of “Together Until Death” (“Juntas Hasta la Muerte”), a new Spanish horror-comedy written and directed by Igna L. Vacas that began principal photography this month in the Canary Islands.

Trejo joins an ensemble led by two of the brightest young names in Spanish horror: Sandra Escacena, who broke out in Paco Plaza’s terrifying Verónica, and Aria Bedmar, who headlined Plaza’s Netflix horror feature Sister Death. Both actresses have become closely associated with the new wave of Spanish genre cinema, and their presence suggests the film is aiming for genuine scares alongside its laughs.
A Genre-Heavy Ensemble
The supporting cast is stacked with familiar faces from both Spanish and international genre fare. Stephanie Gil, seen in Terminator: Dark Fate, is on board, along with Nira Osahia, fresh off Netflix’s young adult series Olympo, and Carlos Santos, a Goya Award winner for Smoke & Mirrors who also appears in the hit series Billionaires’ Bunker. Veteran David Santana rounds out the announced ensemble.
It’s a fitting playground for Trejo, whose gruff screen persona has made him one of the most recognisable faces in action and genre cinema. The actor has spent decades bouncing between Hollywood productions and scrappy independent projects, and a Spanish-language horror-comedy shot in the Canary Islands sits comfortably in the latter tradition — the kind of production where cult appeal matters more than box office.
Spanish Horror’s Moment
The project arrives at a time when Spanish horror continues to punch far above its weight internationally. Filmmakers like Paco Plaza have carried the torch from earlier classics, and streaming platforms have given Spanish genre films a global audience they never had before. Escacena’s Verónica and Bedmar’s Sister Death both found viewers far beyond Spain’s borders, which makes their team-up here — with a Hollywood icon like Trejo in the mix — one to watch for horror fans everywhere.
Details about the plot are being kept under wraps for now, but the combination of an experienced genre director, two of Spain’s most exciting young scream queens, and Danny Trejo doing whatever Danny Trejo does in a horror-comedy is a strong recipe. With cameras already rolling in the Canary Islands, expect first looks to surface well ahead of any festival run.
