BLACKPINK’s Lisa Faces Backlash Over New Song “Tarantino” Teaser — Netizens Divided

BLACKPINK’s Lisa teased her new song “Tarantino” this week ahead of its release later this month — and the internet wasted no time making its feelings known. The snippet, which Lisa shared on social media alongside a pre-save link, has split netizens down the middle, drawing both praise for its creativity and a wave of sharp criticism.

Why the Backlash?

The controversy centers largely on the song’s title. A vocal portion of netizens took issue with Lisa naming the track after filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, arguing that honoring the director is a questionable creative choice. Critics pointed to the director’s long-documented history of controversial language in his films and connected the title to wider accusations about the company Lisa keeps, including past criticism over her relationships and collaborators.

“Not her honoring the most controversial man,” one widely-shared post read, while others accused the track’s lyrics of being “cringe and corny.” Several netizens also drew a pointed link to Lisa’s own recently addressed controversies, arguing the choice of namesake showed poor judgment.

“The Same Formula”

Beyond the title debate, another thread of criticism targeted the music itself. Some listeners argued that Lisa has been releasing songs with an identical formula for years, with one poster claiming the new snippet still follows the YG-style structure — a jab that carries extra weight given Lisa’s recent documentary comments shading her former company. “She’s been releasing the same songs for five years,” another post read.

Not everyone was negative, of course. A contingent of fans defended the teaser, praising Lisa’s willingness to take creative risks and experiment with new concepts rather than play it safe. But as of now, the critical voices are undeniably loud.

“Tarantino” is set to drop later this month, and if the reaction to a teaser is anything to go by, the full release is going to be one of the most dissected K-pop drops of the year. Whether Lisa addresses the backlash directly remains to be seen.
