The Arizona Cardinals are doing “what’s right” for their prized rookie. Jeremiyah Love has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams due to a nagging ankle injury, head coach Mike LaFleur confirmed on Friday.

Love did not practice all week, missing his third straight session on Friday before the decision was made. The injury has bothered the rookie running back for a couple of weeks, and LaFleur said the team wants to get him back to full health rather than push him through it.
A Rough Start for the No. 3 Pick
Arizona drafted Love with the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, where he racked up more than 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns from scrimmage over his final two college seasons. His NFL debut hasn’t lived up to that billing yet.
Through five games (four starts), the 21-year-old has rushed for just 245 yards and one touchdown, averaging 3.7 yards per carry. Last Sunday against the Detroit Lions, he managed only 22 yards on 12 carries (1.8 yards per attempt). The injury has also limited his ability to make cuts and run routes, keeping him quiet in the passing game.
Love sprained his right ankle in the preseason, but the current issue affects his left ankle, which he hurt in the matchup with the New York Giants.
No IR… Yet
LaFleur said there have been no conversations about placing Love on injured reserve, and the team hopes to have him back ahead of the Week 7 game against the Broncos. Without him, Arizona leans on Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight in the backfield when the 1-4 Cardinals visit their NFC West rival Rams (2-3) on Sunday.
Allgeier hasn’t had much success either this season, rushing for just 119 yards on 35 carries. It’s a thin backfield for a team that desperately needs something to click.
