By WOWOW has announced a new live-action series based on Satoru Noda’s Golden Kamuy manga, titled Golden Kamuy: Karafuto Tsuiseki-hen (Karafuto Pursuit Arc). The series will begin streaming on January 24 at 10:00 p.m.

Kenji Katagiri returns to direct alongside new director Masaaki Yoshimura, while Tetsuo Kamata of the live-action BLUE LOCK film takes over script duties. Composers Yutaka Yamada and Yoshiaki Dewa are back on the music, and Hiroshi Nakagawa and Debo Akibe again serve as Ainu language and cultural advisers. CREDEUS is producing.
A Box-Office Hit’s Expanding World
The live-action Golden Kamuy journey began with the first film, which opened in Japan in January 2024 and topped the Japanese box office in its first weekend — selling 356,000 tickets for 533,848,690 yen (about US$3.44 million) in its first three days. Netflix began streaming the film in May 2024. The follow-up series, Golden Kamuy: The Hunt of Prisoners in Hokkaido, debuted in October 2024 with ACIDMAN performing the theme song “Kagayakerumono.”
The second film, Golden Kamuy: Attack on Abashiri Prison, opened in Japan on March 13 at #3, with Netflix adding it on July 13. It starred Kento Yamazaki as Saichi Sugimoto and Anna Yamada as Asirpa, directed by Katagiri at CREDEUS.
The Manga’s Legacy
Noda launched the manga in Shueisha’s Young Jump in 2014 and ended it in April 2022. Beyond the live-action films, the manga has inspired four anime seasons, with the final arc premiering January 5 and continuing this winter with the climactic “Runaway Train” arc.
