Iraola Admits Liverpool In Delicate Situation After Double Injury Blow In Brentford Win

Andoni Iraola admitted Liverpool’s players are in a “very delicate situation” after the club’s demanding schedule claimed two more victims in Saturday’s 2-1 comeback win at Brentford. Both Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong limped off and could be sidelined for “some time.”

The victory came at a heavy cost. Szoboszlai, rushed back into the starting lineup after missing two games with a hamstring problem, re-aggravated the same injury and was forced off in the 31st minute, replaced by youngster Trey Nyoni. “He’s still not healed,” Iraola confirmed after the match. “It’s not another injury — we didn’t know the minutes he’d have.”

Frimpong Lasts Just Seven Minutes

The bad luck didn’t stop there. Frimpong, introduced at half-time for Ronald Araujo, pulled up with a muscle injury after only seven minutes on the pitch. Iraola revealed the Dutch full-back had finished the midweek Champions League trip to LASK cramping and wasn’t fit to start: “He felt straight away something in the muscle.”

A Brutal Run Of Fixtures Takes Its Toll

Iraola pointed to the relentless calendar as the root cause. Liverpool arrived home late from Austria after Wednesday’s 6-3 win over LASK, leaving little recovery time before the Brentford trip. “We have a very delicate situation,” he said. “You’re in doubt between the players who have already started two games and are very tired or the players who are recovering from injuries.”

On the pitch, the Reds showed resilience. Trailing to a stunning Keane Lewis-Potter header, Liverpool turned it around after Brentford’s Yehor Yarmoliuk saw red late in the first half. Victor Munoz equalized before Alexander Isak — back from his own thigh injury — smashed home the 70th-minute winner past Caoimhin Kelleher.

The wins keep coming, but Iraola knows the squad is stretched dangerously thin — with Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday and Brighton at Anfield next weekend, there is no breathing room in sight.
