Documentaries almost never do this at the box office. “You Can See Everything”, the much-hyped look at fallen Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, stunned the industry with a $15 million opening weekend.

The film played in just 855 theaters yet finished in second place for the weekend — an extraordinary result for a nearly three-hour documentary that wasn’t on anyone’s radar until about two months ago. Heading into the weekend, expectations sat at $7 million to $8 million, a total that would already have counted as remarkable for a non-concert documentary. It nearly doubled that.
Street Fighter Leads the Weekend
The weekend’s top spot went to Paramount’s video game adaptation “Street Fighter”, which opened to roughly $30 million from 3,575 venues. The fighting-game franchise continues to prove its drawing power on the big screen.
Why This Opening Matters
Must-see documentaries are a genuine rarity in theaters — especially ones that don’t involve music or a wildly popular concert film. “You Can See Everything” accomplishing a true box office feat with the Elizabeth Holmes story, a saga that captivated the public years ago, suggests curiosity about one of Silicon Valley’s most infamous downfalls is as strong as ever.
For a film that barely registered two months ago to outpace its own projections so dramatically is the kind of box office story the industry rarely gets to tell anymore.
