Null-Meta manga gets TV anime in 2027 directed by Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2's Kai Ikarashi

Aniplex has officially announced that Kokamumo’s four-panel slice-of-life manga Null-Meta is getting a television anime adaptation in 2027. The announcement caps off a cryptic teaser campaign that had fans guessing, with the studio dropping a teaser video featuring the letters “NLMT” just days before the reveal.

The announcement marks another Manga Time Kirara Max series joining the growing list of wholesome comedy manga making the leap to animation, and the staff lineup signals that Aniplex is taking this adaptation seriously.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Director Takes the Helm

Leading the project as director is Kai Ikarashi, best known for his work on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, with animation production handled by studio Soigne, the team behind mono and Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk. Series scripts fall to Tatsuya Takahashi, whose credits include Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon and The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, while Shin Ogasawara of Pokémon: Twilight Wings fame is designing the characters.

That is a strong creative package for a series whose premise sounds deliberately absurd: the manga centers on Kurumi, a “really dumb” android, and the oddball group around her. There is her guardian Chiaki, who is described as a little crazy, the calm and easily amused Sakina, and Shiyuki, billed as the only sane one of the bunch.

What Null-Meta Is About

At its core, Null-Meta is a high school slice-of-life comedy about nothing in particular. The girls spend their days remodeling Kurumi, doting on her, and chatting about whatever comes to mind — the kind of low-stakes, character-driven humor that the Kirara magazine family has perfected over the years.

Kokamumo launched the manga in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max in March 2020, and Houbunsha published the sixth compiled volume on January 27 this year. Six years of steady serialization gives the anime a solid foundation of material to draw from, and Soigne’s recent track record with light comedy suggests the laid-back tone should translate well.

With 2027 now locked in as the target year, expect casting announcements, key visuals, and a broadcast window reveal in the coming months. For fans of gentle sci-fi comedies with found-family warmth, Null-Meta is shaping up to be one to watch.
