Speaking to Elle magazine, Schafer shared the news in her own words: “I just had bottom surgery in December, which was amazing, and I love it so much.”
A Long Personal Journey
The model and actress, now 27, spoke candidly about the path that led her to the decision. For a long time, she said, she embraced the gender-expansive part of herself — she “really wanted to try to make that previous body work,” because she thought there was something “really cool and badass” about it.
But over time, she described repeatedly hitting a wall: the ideal of a “theoretical queer utopia,” as Elle put it, didn’t line up with the world she encountered every day — or with how she personally wanted to move through it. Ultimately, she concluded that a medical transition was the right decision for her, while acknowledging that every trans person’s path is different.
One of Hollywood’s Most Watched Stars
Schafer broke out in 2019 with Euphoria, HBO’s generation-defining drama, where her portrayal of Jules Vaughn earned widespread acclaim. Since then, she’s built a growing film career, including roles in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Cuckoo, along with her ongoing high-fashion presence.
Her openness about her trans identity has long been part of her public persona — she’s spoken about it in interviews since before Euphoria premiered, framing it as one part of who she is rather than the whole story. This latest revelation continues that pattern: honest, self-directed, and on her own terms.
Fans and peers flooded social media with support after the interview published, praising her for sharing something so intimate with such confidence.
