The Murciélago TV anime finally has a face — and a premiere window. The official staff revealed a teaser promotional video, a new key visual, and the main cast on Tuesday, locking the series in for a January 2027 debut. HIDIVE has picked up the series and will stream it exclusively in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.

The teaser confirms a stacked trio of leads: Hitomi Ueda voices Kuroko Koumori, the former death-row inmate hand-picked through extraordinary legal means to serve as a state-sanctioned executioner. Minori Suzuki plays her partner and watchdog Hinako Tozakura, whose driving skills are second to none, while Sumire Uesaka takes on Chiyo Yanaoka.
A Wildly Unconventional Buddy Action Series
The series promises a dangerously unconventional story, following the strongest duo as they take on one heinous crime after another and confront the darkness hiding inside society. The official tagline sells it as wildly unconventional, addictively insane, and dangerously intoxicating — which tracks perfectly with the manga’s reputation for over-the-top action and dark comedy.
Behind the scenes, Matsuo Asami directs the anime at Satelight and Staple Entertainment. Takashi Naoya serves as chief director and handles series composition, with Kiyoshi Tateishi on character designs and music by Masanori Akita and Yūichi Tsuchiya.
A Long-Running Manga With 2.3 Million Copies in Circulation
Kana Yoshimura launched the Murciélago manga in Square Enix’s Young Gangan back in 2013, and it is still going strong. Square Enix published the manga’s 29th compiled volume on July 24, and the series boasts an impressive 2.3 million copies in circulation worldwide. Yen Press is releasing the manga in English and shipped the 27th volume on September 22.
Fans of the wider universe can also check out the spinoff manga Murciélago Byproduct Araña, which ran in Square Enix’s Manga UP! app from January 2018 to June 2020 and focused on the character Reiko Kuchiba.
