Christopher Daniels never doubted it — not even on day one. In a new interview, the veteran revealed he could tell AJ Styles was destined for greatness the very first time they locked up, long before “The Phenomenal One” became a global star.

“You could tell that day”
Speaking to Going Ringside, Daniels was asked for his best AJ Styles stories — and he didn’t hesitate. The two first wrestled at the NWA’s 53rd Anniversary show, before TNA even existed. “I saw greatness in him early on,” Daniels said. “You could tell that day that he was going to be something special.”
Once TNA launched, Styles was there from the very beginning — and he was world champion within roughly a year. As Daniels put it, that was simply the start of “a career that’s Hall of Fame worthy.”
A rivalry that spanned the globe
The pair’s careers stayed intertwined for decades, facing off and teaming together across TNA and promotions worldwide. Both men have now retired from full-time in-ring competition, closing the book on one of wrestling’s most quietly legendary rivalries. Following AJ’s retirement earlier this year, Daniels paid tribute to his longtime rival’s in-ring career.
“Every time I got to wrestle him was a pleasure,” Daniels said. “I wrestled him all around the world. I tagged with him all around the world.” High praise — and coming from the Fallen Angel, it carries real weight.
