Son Ye Jin is facing yet another wave of criticism from Korean netizens — this time over something as harmless as her casual outfit on a trip to Yokohama and a clip of her enjoying a cheese stick.

The actress has been under near-constant scrutiny for the most mundane parts of her daily life. On September 30, she posted a short video with the caption “Finally ate.. it’s delicious,” happily biting into a cheese stick from a popular chicken brand. The post drew over 8,000 comments, many from fans charmed by her warm, approachable side — “How can she look so pretty while eating?” and “I want to try it too” were among the responses.
But the friendly clip also drew bitter complaints: netizens accused her of “smacking” her food, called eating with her hands unhygienic, and claimed it “ruins the image.” The backlash extended to her fashion after she posted photos on October 18 from a relaxed trip to Yokohama, Japan, captioned “Hope you have a lovely Sunday!” Posing with a Ferris wheel and the sea behind her in an oversized T-shirt, a full skirt, and sunglasses, making a playful double V-sign — she chose comfort over glamour, and some netizens disparaged her anyway.
When Scrutiny Goes Too Far
There is a clear difference between sharing opinions on a celebrity’s style and hurling derogatory remarks about their appearance or manners. Being one of South Korea’s most beloved actresses doesn’t mean Son Ye Jin must perform perfection while eating a snack or traveling. The continuous criticism over such trivial moments — from ordinary family moments to travel outfits — exposes a harsh reality behind the top-star title and raises questions about how the public treats the private lives of famous people.
