Stephen Warnock has delivered a damning verdict on Manchester United’s 4-1 Champions League humiliation at Como, branding the performance “simply not good enough”. The Match of the Day pundit, alongside Nedum Onuoha, pulled apart United’s display after they were torn apart at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on October 21.

Paz Runs the Show
Nico Paz put Como ahead inside the first two minutes and the hosts never looked back. The Argentine star added a second on 57 minutes, with Anastasios Douvikas (49′) and a Jacobo Ramon header (76′) completing the rout before Joshua Zirkzee’s 90th-minute strike offered only cosmetic relief for the visitors.
The numbers tell a grim story for Michael Carrick’s side: United have now won just two of their opening 11 games this season and became the first English side in the competition’s history to concede inside the opening two minutes in two consecutive Champions League matches.
Fernandes Questions the Tactics
United captain Bruno Fernandes only deepened the crisis with his post-match comments to TNT Sports, openly questioning the team’s tactical approach. The Portuguese midfielder admitted it was the staff’s “decision not to press man to man”, warning that “sometimes when you give space to these teams they get confidence.”
When pressed on whether Carrick got it wrong, Fernandes was blunt: “That’s on the manager and staff to see, not me.” Coming just a week after Lisandro Martinez questioned the club’s hierarchy, these are turbulent days at Old Trafford. United now sit 20th in the Champions League league phase table, with AS Roma next up in Europe.
