Soyou Says She’s Team Cohabitation Before Marriage: “That’s Love”

Soyou says she's team cohabitation before marriage

Former SISTAR member Soyou isn’t shy about sharing her views on love — and in a new video, she made it clear she’s firmly team cohabitation before marriage.

The confession came in a dating-advice video uploaded October 19 to the singer’s own YouTube channel, where she answered questions sent in by subscribers. One fan asked about her boyfriend, who wants to live together and buy a house together — paying more of the cost but putting the ownership in her name — without marrying first.

“That’s love,” says Soyou

Soyou didn’t hesitate. “Yes,” she replied, calling the arrangement a sign of trust: “The boyfriend doesn’t necessarily want to marry but wants to cohabit. He’s paying more but wants the ownership in your name—that’s trust. Ownership isn’t something simple. That’s love.”

She went on to explain her own stance: “I’m someone who believes in cohabitation before marriage. There’s already a plus in that. When you live together, you notice things that are different about each other, and there’s fun in adjusting to those differences.”

When does living together lead to marriage?

Soyou offered a nuanced take. “If you’re compatible in everything, you’ll eventually think about marriage,” she said. But she also acknowledged the flip side — if a boyfriend says he absolutely won’t marry and only wants to cohabit, and that doesn’t bother the partner, then “it’s just a long-term relationship that includes living together, right?”

Honest, practical, and very Soyou — fans are eating up the advice.
