"Mother Bhumi" and "Rehana Maryam Noor" Producers Head to Indonesia's JAFF Market Exchange

Some heavyweight names in Asian cinema are heading to Yogyakarta. Producers behind Fan Bingbing’s “Mother Bhumi,” the Cannes Un Certain Regard title “Rehana Maryam Noor,” and BBC One and Stan drama “The Tourist” are among the 14 picks for the debut Producers Exchange at Indonesia’s JAFF Market, which runs November 28-30.

What the program does

The market, which runs alongside the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) and is sponsored this year by Amar Bank, created the program to steer visiting producers toward Indonesian partners. Each participant gets a tailored calendar of pre-booked meetings with teams from the JAFF Future Project selection, rights holders from JAFF IP Connection, exhibitors and other delegates.

Meetings are matched to each producer’s background and interests, with conversations ranging from adaptation and financing to co-production and release strategy — a structured way to turn festival handshakes into real projects.

Why it matters

Southeast Asia’s film markets have been growing fast, and JAFF’s third edition landing producers of this caliber — with Cannes pedigree and global streaming hits on their resumes — signals Indonesia’s ambitions as a co-production hub. If even a fraction of those pre-booked meetings turn into films, expect some interesting Asia-wide collaborations to be announced out of Yogyakarta this December.
