WWE Hall of Famer Michael Hayes revealed he once confronted Chelsea Green about something missing from her matches — Chelsea Green herself. Hayes shared the story during his appearance with Stephanie McMahon on the October 22 episode of “What’s Your Story?”.

Hayes explained that one theme he constantly pushes with younger wrestlers is making sure their personalities don’t disappear once the bell rings. A technically good match isn’t enough — the performer has to bring their character into the match. “Are you bringing your character into a match? You know, that’s a theme I go with a lot with kids today,” Hayes said. “That’s a good match. Where’s your character?”
That’s when he brought up Green — admitting even he knows mentioning her name is dangerous territory these days, given the drama between them lately. “Like I did that with Chelsea one time. I always get in trouble when I talk about—” Hayes said, before Stephanie immediately picked up on where the story was going.
What This Means for Chelsea Green’s WWE Future
The comments carry extra weight given Green’s current standing in WWE — she’s the WWE Women’s Champion, defending against Roxanne Perez on tonight’s SmackDown while Liv Morgan waits at Crown Jewel. A veteran producer urging her to let her personality drive her matches is a sign WWE still sees her character work as central to her presentation.
