Marvel Comics is positioning Hulk War: Infernal Rage as one of its key crossover storylines for 2027. Ahead of its launch, IGN has exclusively debuted a preview of The Infernal Hulk vs. The Avengers #1 — the last of Marvel’s Hulk war prelude specials, written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson with art by Carlos Magno and a cover by Nic Klein.

Infernal Hulk vs. The Avengers sets up 2027’s Hulk War: Infernal Rage crossover
The prelude special is the climax of writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s Hulk saga so far, and it paints a terrifying picture. The Hulk is now possessed by a demonic entity known as The Eldest, and the corrupted green giant is amassing an army of corrupted heroes before declaring war on the entire Marvel Universe.
Marvel’s official summary teases the stakes plainly: who survives the final battle? Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are about to face the strongest opponent there is — and this time, that opponent is one of their own.
What to know before Hulk War: Infernal Rage
While the crossover itself does not officially kick off until February 2027, Marvel is publishing this crucial lead-in story in December, giving readers the setup they need before the war begins. It follows the previous prelude specials that built Johnson’s run into Marvel’s next big event.
Johnson’s Hulk saga has leaned into horror and cosmic-scale stakes, and the Infernal Hulk concept — a Hulk turned into a vessel for something demonic — is the darkest turn yet. With corrupted heroes in his army and the Avengers in his sights, the February crossover is shaping up to be one of the most brutal Hulk events Marvel has ever published.
The Infernal Hulk vs. The Avengers #1 lands this December. Hulk War: Infernal Rage follows in February 2027.
