Kafka Hibino’s story is heading to the big screen for its grand finale. Kaiju No. 8: The Movie will officially conclude the anime series as a theatrical film set for release in 2027, closing the book on the adaptation that began in April 2024.

The film follows the first two seasons of the TV anime and will serve as the conclusion to the entire adaptation. It was originally announced during Jump Festa 2026, alongside the Narumi’s Week at Work four-episode special, and a super teaser visual released with the announcement carries the chilling tagline, “The age of humanity ends.”
Kaiju No. 8 Final Movie Brings Back Production I.G and Studio Khara
Studio Production I.G is returning to handle animation production for the film, with Studio Khara back in charge of the creature designs. That continuity matters for a finale: the kaiju designs and the large-scale Defense Force battles are central to the series’ identity, and keeping the same teams behind them should give the movie the visual consistency fans expect from a theatrical send-off.
The anime so far has released a total of 23 episodes between April 13, 2024 and September 27, 2025. Moving the conclusion to cinemas rather than a third season signals how much confidence the producers have in the franchise, and it gives the final battles the scale of a theatrical presentation.
Masaya Fukunishi on Playing Kafka Hibino to the Very End
Masaya Fukunishi, who voices Kafka Hibino, shared an emotional message about reaching the finale. He noted that after the broadcasts of Seasons 1 and 2, the team got to enjoy the anime together with fans, and that in 2027 the series will finally reach its conclusion with a theatrical film.
Fukunishi also pointed out a personal coincidence: next year he turns 32, the same age as Kafka. He said he cannot help but feel there is something fateful about reaching the final chapter at this particular moment, and promised to keep giving everything he has to the work he loves, together with his beloved Kafka Hibino, until the very, very end.
The Manga Behind Kaiju No. 8 Already Reached Its Ending
The Kaiju No. 8 manga by Naoya Matsumoto began serialization in July 2020 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform and officially ended in July with Chapter 129, compiled into 16 volumes. Viz Media publishes it in English, telling the story of Kafka, who hopes to keep his childhood pact with Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side.
There is just one problem for Kafka: while Mina neutralizes kaiju as Third Division captain, he has made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8. That secret identity has driven the series’ tension from the start, and the movie will finally resolve it.
The franchise continues to grow beyond the anime, too. The game adaptation, Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME, launched worldwide on August 31, 2025, after huge pre-registration numbers. For fans, 2027 now shapes up as the year Kafka’s journey ends where it deserves to end: on the biggest screen possible.
