Liverpool earned their first league win at Anfield this season with a composed 2-0 victory over Brighton, moving into the Premier League top four. An own goal from Pascal Gross, swiftly followed by a strike from Alexander Isak, settled the contest in a devastating four-minute first-half spell.

Liverpool 2-0 Brighton: Isak extends hot streak at Anfield
Brighton, arriving at Anfield as the league’s top scorers, could have taken an early lead when Diego Gomez’s pass caught Virgil van Dijk out of position and Gross crossed for Yasin Ayari, who fired wastefully over with the goal at his mercy. Liverpool punished that miss in the 17th minute: Ronald Araujo surged forward, Florian Wirtz struck powerfully, and the ball took a big deflection off Gross before settling in the bottom corner.
Isak doubled the lead by the 21st minute, burying Bradley Barcola’s cut-back with a clinical finish. The Sweden striker has now scored six goals in seven league appearances this season, including three in his last four matches, and is beginning to justify his £125 million move from Newcastle after a turbulent debut campaign.
Andoni Iraola’s first Premier League win at Anfield
The victory also marked a welcome breakthrough for manager Andoni Iraola, who had failed to win any of his first three Premier League games at Anfield since arriving from Bournemouth in the close season. He had already enjoyed Champions League and League Cup victories at the ground, and this result made it four consecutive wins in all competitions following the chastening 3-0 home defeat against Manchester City.
Liverpool climbed to fourth in the table, one point behind third-placed Brighton, after handing the high-flying Seagulls just their second league defeat of the campaign. The Reds remain six points behind leaders City, but with a first home league win finally secured — ending a run of five home league matches without victory dating back to last season — there are signs the attack is finally clicking.
