Our Last Crusade Season 3 Brings Back Season 2’s Director and Character Designer
Yuki Inaba returns to direct the new season at Studio Palette and SILVER LINK., and he will also handle the series scripts once again. Kaori Yoshikawa is back as character designer, keeping the look of the series consistent with the second season.
The announcement is a welcome bit of stability for a franchise that has had a bumpy road. The second season was originally planned for 2023 before slipping to July 2024, and it then paused after four episodes in August 2024 to maintain quality, eventually restarting from the first episode in April 2025. With the same core team returning, season 3 looks set to avoid that kind of turbulence.
What Is Our Last Crusade About?
Based on the light novels by Kei Sazane and Ao Nekonabe, the story follows a great war between the scientifically advanced Empire and Nebulis, the realm of witches. The youngest knight ever named the Empire’s strongest meets the princess of the rival nation, and though they are sworn enemies, something more complicated than hatred grows between them.
The first season premiered in October 2020, and the novels have been running in Japan since May 2017, with 16 volumes now in print. A manga adaptation launched in 2018 and has seven volumes, plus a three-volume spinoff light novel series. Yen Press publishes both the novels and the manga in English.
No premiere date has been announced yet for season 3, but with the returning team and a teaser visual already out, more details should follow in the coming months. Fans waiting since the second season’s restart will be watching closely for the first trailer.
