Cash Wheeler Believes FTR Is Favored If Best-of-Five Series Goes the Distance

Cash Wheeler is confident that FTR will come out on top if their best-of-five series against the Motor City Machine Guns goes the full distance. Speaking to Going Ringside, Wheeler said the longer a match or a series goes, the better it suits FTR, and he believes that edge will decide the series.

The series is currently tied at one match apiece. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin won the first bout at WrestleDream, before FTR stole the win back on the following episode of Collision. The third match is set for AEW Fright Night Dynamite, with the series still very much alive.

Cash Wheeler FTR Best-of-Five Series: Why Longer Matches Suit FTR

Wheeler’s argument is built on FTR’s history in long, gruelling matches. He pointed to a 58-minute match with Jay White and Juice Robinson, and a 45-minute match with Mark and Jay Briscoe, as proof that FTR thrives when a contest moves past normal length and into what he called deep waters.

“Everybody knows that for us in particular, the longer a match goes or the longer a series goes, the better off we are. We thrive in those marathon style matches,” Wheeler said. “When you get into those deep waters, when you get past the point of a normal match and you’re in a new realm, I think we thrive there.”

He contrasted that with the Motor City Machine Guns, suggesting Shelley and Sabin might be more explosive in the first 15 or 20 minutes, but that FTR are very good at dragging a match out to take that advantage away. In a best-of-five series, that ability to extend things, match after match, could be decisive.

Why Wheeler Says FTR Lost Match One

Wheeler also had an explanation for FTR’s loss in the opening match. Both teams, he said, were coming out of a ladder match at AEW All Out that took years off their careers, and FTR were still getting back to full health.

“I’m getting my shoulders back into a range of motion that is actually healthy again,” Wheeler said. “So, I think if those goes the full five, then that favors FTR.”

Whether that confidence holds up will be tested at Fright Night Dynamite, where match three could swing the momentum firmly in one team’s favour. If Wheeler is right, the Machine Guns need to win quickly. If the series drags on, FTR believe time itself is on their side.
