Kim Sae Ron’s mother has been sent to prosecution alongside others accused of spreading false information about actor Kim Soo Hyun, according to a statement from his agency Gold Medalist issued on October 26. The development follows the indictment and arrest of Garosero Research Institute representative Kim Se Ui on related charges.

Kim Sae Ron’s Mom Sent to Prosecution, Agency Says
In its statement, Gold Medalist said the accomplices involved in a series of crimes, including spreading false information together with Kim Se Ui, had their criminal charges acknowledged. Among those sent to prosecution, the agency said, are the late actress’s mother and a person who impersonated her aunt.
According to the investigation report from the Seoul Gangnam Police Station cited in the report, the mother, identified as A, and B, who impersonated the aunt, were charged with defamation by spreading false information, distribution of footage under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, and attempted coercion. The late actress’s father was not prosecuted.

The agency said a separate police investigation covered accomplices not initially included as suspects. Attorney Bu Ji Seok, who represented the bereaved family and led two press conferences, was referred to prosecution on defamation charges, while Kwon Young Chan, operator of the YouTube channel Kwon Young Chan TV, was sent for prosecution on charges relating to distribution of footage. Gold Medalist expressed gratitude to investigators for verifying the facts with extensive materials and objective evidence, according to the statement.
The case dates back to March last year, when Kim Se Ui claimed through YouTube broadcasts that Kim Soo Hyun had dated the late Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor and was responsible for her death, releasing audio recordings and materials claimed to be KakaoTalk conversations. Investigators determined, according to the report, that the voice recordings were manipulated files generated by generative AI and that the KakaoTalk content was fabricated. Kim Se Ui was arrested in May on charges of spreading false information about Kim Soo Hyun.
