Rey Pegasus still has not fully come to terms with the biggest night of his career. Weeks after winning the CMLL Mexican National Middleweight Title, the rising star admits the moment has yet to truly sink in.

Pegasus earned his title shot in an unusual way — through online fan voting. He then faced then-champion Guerrero Maya Jr. at CMLL Noche de Campeones and defeated him to capture the championship. Speaking with Fightful’s Luis Pulido, Pegasus opened up about both the vote and the title win that followed.
Rey Pegasus on Winning the CMLL Fan Vote
“Come to think of it, several weeks have already gone by, and I still can’t wrap my head around it,” Pegasus said. “I’ll be completely honest: sometimes I still can’t believe how it all went down, especially at the beginning with the voting.”
The field made the result even more surprising to him. The vote featured wrestling legend Blue Panther and Brillante Jr., a wrestler Pegasus described as really making a name for himself with a strong track record and tremendous family support — alongside himself, as he put it, “the new guy.”
“To see that, in such a short time, the audience supported me so much in the voting already made me very happy,” he said. “Competing for that championship was already a historic moment for me.”

Pegasus knew exactly what he was walking into at Noche de Campeones. Guerrero Maya Jr. brought years of CMLL experience and a long list of title defences into the match, and the championship itself carries enormous history.
“He was one of the wrestlers with the most title defences and the longest career, especially with that historic championship — a title held by wrestling legends, more than you can imagine,” Pegasus said. “It’s so important that even I, at times, didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of that championship.”
What made the night unforgettable, though, was who was watching. Pegasus is not from Mexico City and does not have his family nearby, but his family made the trip to be present at Arena México for the championship match.
“Imagine how excited I was to have my family there,” he said. “I went out there with all my heart that day — I went out with all the determination in the world to win that championship.”
Even now, with the title in hand and weeks having passed, Pegasus says he is still living in the moment rather than looking past it.
“To have the chance to win that championship is something I still haven’t fully processed to this day,” he said. “I’m still savoring it, enjoying it, and it really was something very, very, very beautiful that I got to experience.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Pegasus also discussed being part of Los Amos del Aire, a topic fans can explore further in his full conversation with Fightful.
