The Dallas Cowboys saved their season on Monday Night Football, beating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 at Lincoln Financial Field behind a career night from Javonte Williams, who ran for a career-high 155 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. The win ended Dallas’ two-game losing streak and moved the Cowboys to 3-4, while the injury-hit Eagles fell to 2-5 with a fifth straight loss.
Williams was the story of the night. He became the Cowboys’ first 150-yard rusher since Ezekiel Elliott in 2018, and his punishing running set the tone for an offence that finally found balance. Dallas ran the ball 38 times for 204 yards and threw it 27 times for 212 yards, a stark change from the previous week, when head coach Brian Schottenheimer was criticised for abandoning the run in the second half.
Cowboys vs Eagles: Dak Prescott throws three touchdowns in 38-21 win
Dak Prescott finished 15-of-27 for 212 yards and three touchdowns, spreading the ball to CeeDee Lamb, who caught five passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns, and George Pickens, who added four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. The game swung for good late in the third quarter, when Lamb’s 16-yard touchdown reception and Prescott’s two-point conversion gave Dallas a 28-21 lead — the sixth and final lead change of a back-and-forth night.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, was decimated by injuries. The Eagles started without quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks, and finished without running backs Saquon Barkley and Dameon Pierce. Backup quarterback Tanner McKee, starting for a second straight week, went 23-of-35 for 211 yards with a touchdown and an interception, picked off by Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown in the second half.
Barkley, returning after missing two games with a hamstring injury, left with a back injury after seven carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, while Pierce departed in the fourth quarter after 14 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown. Makai Lemon led Philadelphia’s receivers with seven catches for 67 yards and a touchdown.
For Dallas, the formula was simple and it worked: run the ball, protect Prescott and let Williams wear the Eagles down. With the ground game rolling and the season still alive, the Cowboys will hope Monday night was the night their campaign turned around.
