Jaylen Brown has denied a report that he demanded a trade from the Boston Celtics or handed the team a list of demands. According to a representative from Brown’s team, the claim is flat-out false — described as “10000% a lie.”

The denial follows a claim from former Celtics player and current broadcaster Brian Scalabrine, who said Brown privately pressured Boston’s front office and expressed interest in joining the Milwaukee Bucks. Scalabrine later walked the claim back, saying on NBC Sports Boston’s pregame show that Brown did not demand a trade in the formal sense.
Jaylen Brown Trade Denial: What Scalabrine Actually Said
Scalabrine admitted he had summed up a longer story for simplicity, saying: “Technically, [Brown] didn’t demand to be traded. I just summed it all up.” He added that he did not know what the ultimatum or demands were, and suggested one may have involved a contract extension worth around $140 million.
NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints also disputed the original claim, writing that no such trade request ever took place and that it was Boston’s decision to deal Brown. On the day of the trade, ESPN’s Shams Charania similarly reported that Brown “never requested a trade” and “never asked out of Boston.”
How Jaylen Brown Ended Up With the Sixers
The trade itself remains one of the NBA’s most consequential offseason moves. Philadelphia acquired Brown in July in exchange for Paul George and four draft picks, after Boston’s earlier attempt to build a Giannis Antetokounmpo offer around Brown fell through when Antetokounmpo landed in Miami.
The fallout has played out in public. Brown and former running mate Jayson Tatum have traded barbs this week, with Tatum saying he reached out the day Brown was traded, and Brown responding that there’s “no beef” — but adding “it might be little lamb chops and some gravy.”
The two will meet on the court for the first time as opponents on November 10 in Philadelphia, a date that just got a lot more interesting.
