Most people only ever plug a charger into their iPhone’s USB-C port — but that port can do far more. With the right cable or adapter, it can turn your phone into a mini workstation, a presentation tool, and a hub for all kinds of gear.

Here are the most useful things you can connect to your iPhone’s USB-C port, and how to get them working.
Keyboards, Mice and Trackpads via iPhone USB-C
Just about any USB input device works with an iPhone, as long as you have the right cable or adapter. Apple’s Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad connect with no setup at all — typing works immediately. To make a mouse pointer appear, enable AssistiveTouch under Settings > Accessibility > Touch, after which even two-finger scrolling works as expected. Older USB mice and mechanical keyboards work too.
A wired connection also means no perceptible latency compared to Bluetooth, which matters if you’re typing long documents or editing on the go.
USB-C Hubs: Dock Your iPhone With One Cable
Pretty much any USB-C hub works with an iPhone, giving you a greater range of ports in one connection. That makes it easy to “dock” your phone to several devices with a single cable. Powered hubs with passthrough charging let you charge the iPhone while it talks to other wired devices at the same time.
If you’re buying a hub specifically for iOS, check the listing to confirm iPhone support — but if you already own a hub, just try it. It will probably just work, and you can’t do any harm by plugging it in.
External Displays: Mirror Your iPhone Screen
You can mirror your iPhone to an external display with a USB-C cable that carries a video signal — often just a double-ended USB-C cable to a supported monitor. Adapters with HDMI or VGA outputs work too, including Apple’s own, and USB-C hubs with video outputs usually do the job as well.
One thing to keep in mind: don’t expect a full desktop experience. The iPhone outputs a narrow vertical mirror of its screen — great for demonstrations, and you can always switch to landscape mode, but it’s no Samsung DeX.
The bottom line: if you only use your iPhone’s USB-C port for charging, you’re leaving most of its potential untouched. A cheap adapter or hub is all it takes to unlock a much more capable setup.
