Go Young Wook Denies Rumors Linking Him to Girls' Generation's Taeyeon in Lengthy Post

Former Roo’ra member Go Young Wook has publicly addressed online speculation linking him to a past variety show anecdote involving Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon, denying the claims in a lengthy social media post on October 28. The post has drawn attention in South Korea because of Go’s history: he is a former celebrity who was convicted of sexual offences against minors.

The speculation began after an old variety show story involving Taeyeon resurfaced on online communities and social media. In that story, Taeyeon spoke about a senior who had messaged her about buying ice cream and then called while drunk — without naming the person. Online commenters subsequently speculated that the senior was Go Young Wook, an identification he has now firmly rejected.

Go Young Wook Denies Taeyeon Rumors

“I try to live quietly by taking care of my cats’ snacks, but everywhere is a minefield,” Go wrote, before addressing the stories directly. He said he met Taeyeon only once, briefly, while he was a regular cast member on Mnet’s “Beatles Code” alongside Yoon Jong Shin and Yoo Se Yoon.

According to his account, Taeyeon arrived late that day, delaying the recording, which annoyed him — until she entered the studio, recognised him and said, “I’m a fan, senior.” He said those words softened his irritation and that he simply greeted her awkwardly. “No matter what happened to me now, it’s unfair to put innocent people on the chopping block and make assumptions without basis,” he wrote.

Go also addressed other variety show stories in which female juniors mentioned him, arguing that broadcast anecdotes were exaggerated for entertainment during pre-interviews with writers. He said he had never called female juniors rudely or late at night, describing himself as shy in waiting rooms who greeted juniors politely, and said some juniors who spoke about him on shows had later contacted him and met him off-camera in good spirits.

Go Young Wook on His Roo’ra Past

In the same post, Go reflected on his 1990s peak with Roo’ra, saying the group was among the most popular of its era and that he was a popular member, and claiming he had dated some top actresses of the time. He presented this as part of his argument, asking why he would have behaved as the speculation suggested.

He closed by criticising the online posts directly, asking what purpose was served by taking old variety clips and, in his words, falsely claiming he was the person Taeyeon had mentioned. The episode is a reminder of how quickly unnamed anecdotes from old broadcasts can harden into named accusations online — and how difficult those accusations are to unwind once they spread, even when the person named denies them outright.
