MAMAMOO's Wheein Tears Up Recalling Group's Heyday, But Netizens Show No Sympathy

MAMAMOO member Wheein broke down in tears while talking about the group’s heyday during a recent live broadcast, but the emotional moment has divided Korean netizens — with many reacting coldly instead of offering comfort.

During a casual mukbang-style livestream, Wheein opened up about how touring stirs up feelings she never had in her early twenties. She admitted that she often thinks back to MAMAMOO’s busiest years, a time she now sees very differently than she did while living through it.

Wheein Says She Misses MAMAMOO’s Peak Years

“I get very emotional during tours,” Wheein said, explaining that she now finds herself longing for the group’s peak era. Back then, she said, the relentless schedule left no breathing room — and she sometimes hated how hard it was. Only with rest and distance, she reflected, can a person truly appreciate the precious moments tucked between the grind.

Looking back, she described those years as both tough and fun, admitting she is not sure she could do it all again if asked today. She also revealed a private ritual: drinking alone while watching old MAMAMOO videos, a habit she called her way of venting — one that usually ends with her crying alone.

Why Netizens Reacted So Harshly to Wheein’s Tears

Wheein also recalled once telling comedian Kim Shin Young that she wanted to quit, only to be told that a day would come when she missed it all. “Honestly, I didn’t understand that at the time,” she said. “Now, I truly feel the weight of those words.”

Online reactions, however, were far from sympathetic. Comments included “She didn’t renew the contract herself,” “This doesn’t resonate,” and “Then why didn’t she renew?” — alongside questions about whether MAMAMOO is disbanding and whether the group is still at its peak now.

The backlash appears tied to the group’s recent history. MAMAMOO — Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein and Hwasa — debuted in 2014 and built a reputation on powerhouse vocals. Wheein left the group’s original agency when her contract expired in 2021, and Hwasa moved to P Nation in 2023 after choosing not to renew. Since their 2022 “ILLELLA” promotions, the members have largely focused on solo work.

Yet the story is not one of an ending. Reunited after four years, MAMAMOO are currently on the road for the MAMAMOO 2026 WORLD TOUR [4WARD], giving fans a long-awaited chance to see all four members together again.
